Default Guilty Pleasures and Disco Staples

I know we are there to play for the public but I sometimes cant help but pop on a song I love or I know is a disco gem.

Just about every disco I do features a little mix mash of Sugar Hill Gang - Apache, Grand Master Flash - Rappers Delight and Yolanda Be Cools - We No Speak Americano

    What are yours?

    Must be a remix?

Actually, I'm sure I've seen an album or YouTube videos that have the two groups mashed together.

Ahem, yep....that should be Sugarhill Gang (apparently Grandmaster Flash is headling the Blissfields festival just down the road from me in May / June time).

If I get the chance and it's a disco theme then guilty pleasure's are Anita Ward - Ring My Bell and Hi-Tension - British Hustle.
My favourite disco track though is Atmosphere - Dancing In Outta Space.

Force of Habit really - when it loads it credits him as the artist, the album I have is The Sugar Hill Gang vs. Grandmaster Flash but the tag is shortened.

I am actually well versed with the roots of rap as its one of my fav genres/eras. I know both the Sugar Hill Gang and Grandmaster Flash (and the furious 5) were all signed to Sugar Hill Records Label. I would however quote one of the many lyrics "the Grandmaster and the 3 MC's" which I believe refers to the fact GMF was working and sang on the track with Master Gee, Big Bank Hank and Wonder Mike.

Before I end up going on and a on and on....

I will end by saying there were a couple of cross overs that involved both the furious 5 and the sugar hill gang which is probably where a lot of confusion spreads from.

Ring my bell - god not heard for years,
Need to look up the British hustle
And not heard of Dancing in Outta Space and I love disco...

Must do more homework however when I listen to them they may job ancient memories.

Funny enough. I'm booked to do a 70's Disco theme night at a pub in April so they will all get played, The good, the bad and the ugly!

Lucky chap. It's a bit far to pop down and relive my youth, sadly.

Apache is one of my pleasures, and White Lines.
Rappers Delight and Americano, sorry but no.
I so remember Ring my Bell coming out, it was groundbreaking at the time.

My own pleasures? Of this style, Donna Summer-Loves Unkind, ( and probably Macarthur Park, Hot Stuff, her dalliances with Lock, Stock and Barrel- This time I know it's for Real and I Don't Wanna Get Hurt. I like Donna Summer. )

Ooh, ooh, an all time classic, Cerrone -Supernature.
Brothers Johnson-Stomp, Commodores-Brick House, Edwin Starr- War, Contact, Happy Radio, Third World-Now That We've Found Love, War-Me and Baby Brother, Rick James-Superfreak, Temptations-Standing at the Top, and Gwen Guthrie- Ain't Nothing Going On But The Rent.

That should hold you for a while.

I just love Donna Summer's version of that, and the original isn't too shabby either.

If we're going Philly, there's only one candidate.

Bitch... just love this fella, followed him avidly as a young un and enjoyed his work with Busta Rhymes (cocaines a hell of a drug)
Gwen Guthrie - Ain't Nothing Going On But The Rent.
A classic that I'd forgotten hence the reason for this post really.
