    Default Smooth Scan 3 Fault

    I use a Smooth Scan 3 Laser and is great but i have a fault.... It powers up but then pulses on and off and no laser show but some signs of laser working but again pluses with the power.. Do i get it repaired or replace??? Thanks

    My first guess would be that the power supply inside the unit has gone wonky. If it's almost coming on intermittently my finger would first point towards a dried out capacitor on the output of the low voltage power supply section.

    If you can solder & dismantle & reassemble something without having any bits left over you can probably fix it yourself pretty easily. You can usually spot duff capacitors by looking at the top of the casing of them.. if it's not flat, replace the capacitor with one of the same size, rating & value.. job done. I've repaired loads of gadgets (mostly LCD monitors, mind) with this kind of fault. If not, it'd be worth having a quote for a repair.
