    Not quite, a bolt has a non threaded section, this gives it a better shear loading, a setscrew is threaded it's entire length. a threaded bar is just that, but if its got a non threaded section in it, then it's a stud

    As previously suggested, I would go with the M10 "Thumb Screw" type. Just make sure you don't get one that's too long!

    Interesting, not that I disagree with the above but the first 3 results in google images for metal bolt are setscrews and 9/13 images are of setscrews. No wonder I was confused!

    Google doesn't' always know it all, out of interest I've just searched on google images for 'setscrew', out of the first 5 pics, 4 were of 'metal collars' containing grub screws and the other was of a box full of self tapping screws.

    Orderd some top screws or what ever they are called.

    Bit long . prob need 20mm. Need a 20mm bolt and a wingnut tbh

    Or a Dremel? My weapon of choice for shortening most bolts/screws & cutting thinnish metal

    Of course if you're shortening anything with a thread on it, don't forget to put a nut on it above where you're cutting first - that way when you're done cutting, when you remove the nut it tends to unmess-up the thread end you've just cut
