i have an Anglo/French wedding next week and am need of some musical suggestions? I have quite a bit of French stuff, and have done a few French weddings but a I really need to build up my collection more and get to know the tracks better. I have quite a bit of North African stuff, but I was mainly after proper French artists and tracks.

My limited suggestion would be (from the top of my head)

    - Daft Punk
    - Magic System (Premier Gao)
    - Claude Francoise
    - Je Ne Veux Pas Travailler

These are on the list, not had time to go through them yet, will get on with that tuesday:

    Claude Francois- Alexandrie Alexandra
    Noir desir- L’homme presse
Joe Dassim- L’ete Imdien- (For the parents)
    Patrick Sebastian- Les Sardines
Les demons de minuit- Emile et Image
Frank & Vincent- Fruit de la passion
    Indochine- trois muits par semaine
    Cendrillion- Telephone
Jean Jacques Goldman- La Vie par procuration

    Thanks

Just a few from the original list provided by the bride.....

Dis l'heure de Zouk - Laisse parler les gens
Sinclair - Si c'est bon comme ca
Telephone - Ca (c'est vraiment toi)
Zouk Machine - Maldon (La musique dans la peau)
    -M- Machistador

I wonder who will be the first person to suggest that song by Serge Gainsbourg?

And don't forget Si Tu Dois Partir- Fairport Convention.

A sensible one for older folk La Vie En Rose - Edith Piaf, or Je Ne Regrette Rien

I can post loads of Gainsbourg, Ye Ye and French film noir soundtrack music - but I suspect it’ll be too niche.

These are probably a bit old --

    Charles Aznavour She

Plastic Bertrand ( ok hes from Belgium) ----ca plane pour moi --whatever that means--nice bit of rock /punk

Serge Gainsborough and Jane Birkin --all time fave of mine.

Chanson by Manhattan Transfer--massive hit in the 70s.( yes they are American )

    But who knows?

    You need a full playlist.

    Louise Attaque - Amours
    Tarmac - La Lune
Vanessa Paradis - Joe le taxi
    Francis Cabrel - Je T'aimais, Je T'aime, Je T'aimerai

Can I remind members (particularly those that have had posts deleted) that the purpose of threads in this section of the forum is to find usable tracks for the genres in question, not for a laugh & a joke. There are plenty of other places on the forum for that.

    Thanks everyone, great help.

As luck would have it the receptionist at our hotel last night was french and came up with these while we were out getting drunk in Salisbury.

OK I played most of the tracks below and they all went down a storm.

The favourites from memory were anything from Claude Francoise & the body dance in French.
The Sardines one is also good and also an action dance.

I played this right near first dance and they went mental to it!!
Its a real warmer, i love it. I know its a cover, but its quite cool for the 70's
It would work really well with the Beegees, damn wished i had thought of that.

Other than that rock and Roll was the predominant music and VERY popular, but I knew that anyway.

These I would say would be for a a mixed or older crowd.
If you could double this with share fired hits, then you would not need much more to pad out the night.

FRENCH - DISCO Alexandrie Alexandra Claude Francois
FRENCH - SLOW Je Ne Veux Pas Travailler Pink Martini
FRENCH - FAST Marcia Baila Les Rita Mitsouko
FRENCH - SLOW L'ete Indien Joe Dassin
FRENCH / 80'S Les Démons De Minuit Images
80'S POP FRENCH / On Va S'aimer Gilbert Montagné
    FRENCH 80'S ELECTRIC L'aventurier Indochine
    FRENCH POP / katerine ~ louxor, j'adore
FRENCH 80'S / Nuit De Folie Début De Soirée
FRENCH WHAT A NIGHT - Claude François - Cette Année Là (Stereo Version ! )
(not so popular) Manu Chao- King Kong Five (MANO NEGRA)

i have a larger list here, that I did not really use that much, this would be good for a younger crowd or trendy older:

Daft Punk - Around The World 1
    One More Time Daft Punk
    FRENCH - ROCK/HIPHOP Noir Désir - L'homme pressé
Alors on danse (90's Remix) Stromae
Euro disco - Ma Chérie Remady Radio Edit DJ Antoine feat. The Beat Shakers
welcome to st. tropez (dj antoine vs mad mark edit) dj antoine
    Je Veux Zaz
    Ni Oui Ni Non Zaz
AFRICAN / FRENCH DANCE Papaoutai Stromae
FRENCH AFRICAN POP Tu Es Fou Magic System
FRENCH AFRICAN EASY POP la musique ds la peau
OH WHAT NIGHT RAP FRENCH / Ces Soirees La Yannick
FRENCH AFRICAN EURODISCO / C'est La Vie Khaled
FRENCH POP / Andalouse Kendji Girac
FRENCH AFRICAN REGGAETON / Bella Maitre Gims
FRENCH FOLK / J't'emmène Au Vent Louise Attaque
FRENCH AFRICAN POP / Zouglou Dance Magic System
FRENCH AFRICAN POP / Positif Matt Houston & P Square
FRENCH POP / Black M - Sur ma route PAROLES
FRENCH SLOW / La Tribu De Dana Manau

Bob Sinclair feat Steve Edwards - World, Hold On

Not sure I'd call Louise Attaque Folk. I suppose if you'd consider the Levellers English Folk then possibly.

What would you class it as out of interest?
French bluegrass or something? Not my area of expertise, best way to describe it for the application.

    Good track that.
