They were more than up to the Job after purchasing another to replace the broken one as I noticed after testing them that one was low in volume and muffled compared to the other, missing high mid frequencies mainly. Actually I think one on its own would be enough

I didn't purchase them for just a disco event though, I wanted something versatile to come in handy for other uses and events and I think that they are great and eliminate the need for subs as they sounded pretty heavy tbh. Plus with a 7 year warranty I'm thinking the may last me a good while, I just need to get the padded covers for them

Anyone heard anything on Wolverhampton Radio about this ?
I had everything more or less at unity gain and that was loud enough

Those Yammy's will cover most parties - trust me....I own a pair (as well as a pair of the 8's and the 12" subs to match). They're absolutely awesome and will happily cover most jobs I do without being pushed anywhere NEAR their limits. Good choice there

As for getting out again...it will come with time.

I started back into this game 4 years ago in December after an 18 year break. It's taken me this long and a lot of re-learning to be able to comfortably say I can be out at least once every week and for a fee which I'm more than happy with. In fact, I'm in a lodge in Wales this week on holibobs and I've taken three bookings whilst I've been here....two of them for next year. You don't have to spend great chunks of money on doing it either. The most important thing to look at (other than word of mouth which is invaluable but takes time to get around) is getting an interweb site if you haven't got one already, and getting the SEO (search engine optimization) sorted out for it. Google is the king don't ya know

Wow 18 year break? Well done, I'm hoping to get at least 1 gig per week too. Hope you are enjoying your holiday I did forget to mention I had been looking at building a website using one of those Wix template thingies just to hurry and get something up and running. Thanks for mentioning the SEO as I'm all new to the website building, Google is boss

Top tip - avoid Wix like the plague. Don't know if it's still true, but Google used to have problems indexing them (I'm prepared to be proven wrong by my learned peers on here on that one). The website is something which is worth spending a little cash on - it's your shop window and ultimately the main source of income. It's where around 80% of my business comes from now, and an enquiry from your own website is normally pretty much guaranteed to book from my own experience (especially mine as I publish my prices so I don't get tyre kickers any more).

Many hosting companies will offer you a template building service or a tool you can use. I use Fasthosts at the moment and I've never had a problem. Yes, to host three websites costs me in the region of £120 a year and I did all the design work myself (you can hire people to do that bit but it's part of what I do as a full time job). You can pay a lot more for hosting, and even get it for free....reliability and speed is the key on that front (Google rates on page load/server speed amongst other things).

SEO is a dark art (so some would have you believe) which isn't actually that difficult to master but that's a completely different subject and one which takes a LOT of explaining. The key thing to remember on that front is that Google's reputation relies on it serving relevant content for the searches it does. It's as simple as that

Best advice I can give you is to not go for the cheapest one you can find, it would be a false economy. You can certainly build your own to keep the costs down, but you need to use a system that google 'likes' I built a site on 'Web Eden' and google appeared to hate it, its performance was useless and proved to be a complete waste of my time. I changed over to 'Web Fusion' and had a site partially built for me which I then took over and added the bulk of the content myself, including the SEO (which I wish I knew much more about) Initially google took its time to index it well, but these days it appears to be running on all 4, and performing well. Around 12 days ago (see P9 of this thread) I got a pair of Kam Gobo Stars and put them on my site the same day, on Sunday I did a quick search using 'gobo star hire' I was delighted to find myself number 3 on page 1 so google seems to like the drupal open source software that Web Fusion sites are built on. There are also a couple of well respected web builders/SEO specialists on this site, who's advice I would certainly take notice of if I were in your position.

If I were to offer any advice - don't go for volume of gigs alone. Says he, steeling himself for Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday.

I'd disagree with that. When I started out, even though I specialised in Indie & Rock music I wanted to do as many 'other' bookings as possible so that I could quickly get my name out there, give cards out and more importantly get reviews and feedback. It worked for me quickly but it doesn't mean I did it the right way or that your advice is right either. Each to their own and all that.

To add - I'll be doing the same again once I am moved in as I will be in a different area that is unknown to me and I'll need to get the word out. I may well have plenty of work down here for the future but I can't always work that way and at some point there will have to be a point where I stop working here and concentrate on the new area if that makes sense.
In other words, I will be caning it up there big time. I'll have some money spare once everything is paid for and that'll go on promotion.

Apologies, I know this is a thread about lighting advice.

And that's the precise reason this site just cannot be allowed to close, I doubt that anyone who's used the site for more than a fortnight hasn't benefited from it, I know I have, and will be happy to chip in to ensure its survival.
