The big question is.....will the venue ONLY contain that little handful of people, or will it be a full blown party to prove the point in a real-life situation? And will the clowncil be monitoring the sound levels from OUTSIDE at the same time?
From tbe information they gave i will only be venue staff, complainent, and someone from the council. No mention of whether sound levels will be monitored from outside.

I got the imression that they just wanted a suitably loud sound system so they could set te limiter at a level that appeases this one complainent.

Probably best not to switch the speakers on then. That should suit them nicely.

But the nature of the tracks in the scenario makes them whimsical.

Well if we're going to be silly, then given the battle lines drawn up between Shaun and the venue on one side, and the council and complainant on the other, there's only one possible choice. Gustav Holst anyone? Planets suite.

Exactly my first thought. These people are clueless, but at least they are trying to test it. You need to explain that with a room full of people even just talking it will add a lot (even up to half) to the overall limit. I would demonstrate that not every track is the same also, so it needs to be in a good position. It would be good to educate the neighbour if poss but in the right fashion. Could be a good political move on your behalf with the venue esp if you bring along some handheld monitors and perhaps print off some information?? Feel free to copy this: http://yourdj.co.uk/sound-meters-noise-limiters/

Are you being paid for this Shaun?

As a test I would use every breath you take as it has a really great high, mid and bass to it.
I would compare it to brightside and then perhaps Bob Marley as it has a lot of high end.

For a funny track. Rihanna - please don't stop the music. Good one to test as its sampled from a disco track so will be consistent.
100db would be the goal for a start off, ideally 105??

    Song recommendations welcome.
I have seen both sides of the argument.
I have DJ-ed and so need to play fairly loud.
When my next door neighbour moved in they would have very loud parties from mid evening until about 7:30am next morning.
Just how or when I was supposed to sleep I don't know.
So I complained to their housing association and haven't heard a party since.

    Toby, for heavens sake!!

    He's Scottish.

He's nearly as tight as me. I once dropped 50p, and got struck by it on the back of the head.

    .
Not cause and effect. DJs need to play at the level required to suit location and circumstances. Not necessarily loud.
