I pretty much use it as a hosting site for photos!

I am a member of a lot of the wedding groups and do read them, and even post on them occasionally, but it's rare that I get any genuine enquiries from it, and the conversion rate from those that I do get is extremely low (much lower than from the website).

When people recommend me on groups like that I end up promoting all the other DJ's, I find it very fun, basically saying "your not going to book me anyway are you". I can't think of a single time when i have got a booking from just an enquiry FB, but I may have had a few?

Just the Hampshire ones, but having said that I never go on it or promote on them now as the quality of the other suppliers and also the people getting married just does not interest me. Having said that, I don't even ever look at my News feed as thats also full of garbage that I don't want cluttering with my Neurones. One way thing for me Facebook, unless I want to contact someone or look at a particular person (9/10 times good looking girls). As for MDN I have not been on there for years now, because of some of the terrible member attitudes. Shame really. MDD would be good but I don't think its as busy as the forum is now.

There are a few smaller DJ groups that i chat on, such as the HDA and living motion monograms. I find the networking and information benefits from that very handy. DJ buy and sell group also good for selling stuff. Local chat group also if I want to find a builder or chiropodist etc. Face bay too for all the cheapskates that want something for nothing.

What Angela didn't mention, as she was talking from the main Corabar page's perspective, was that we have got a number of good paying jobs from my SteampunkDJ.co.uk FB page. Although this is for a specialist market & not mainstream discos.

Did not think they had Facebook in the industrial revolution. You learn something every day

Definitely a good channel for something very unique. I have not mentioned the amount of work i have got from chatting with and networking with other suppliers. I don't generally do much of this now but I could do and it could be very lucrative if done in a very passive shoulder rubbing, do you a favour type manner. For example a photograph[her takes some nice photos of you and your kit, You then ask him for them and promote him, or you take pictures of the floristry and mention the florist etc. and how good it is.

I'm the same, I think I've had one booking that came directly through it and they were hard work from day 1 until the follow up - good gig and all but it seems that anyone who comes to me through FB directly places next to no value on what I offer as a service. In fact the 2 most ridiculous inquiries I ever had:

The bridal groups are a sham too

It of course goes both ways with the old - your rub mine, I'll rub yours but dress boutiques and car companies bigging up DJs? I'm astounded more people don't put 2+2 together that these people have never seen said DJ in action.

I found that in a wedding group I was in (an actual group that meets, not just on FB).

Its amazing, "oh he is a loverly bloke lets ask him to join", but I kept asking - is the work good???

We had one girl doing photos when i joined and she was great, fit too, but I saw the backend of her gallery and it was more than terrible. I could do better on my iPhone, I am not joking and she was charging £1500 a day. We re did the wedding photos for this couple in the end, by mocking it up afterwards with the new photographer!

I would only recommend someone if I have worked with them and feel that the offer good value for money, are professional and have a good reputation.

Me too. I'm glad I've got enough work that I don't need the person that put the chair covers on before I was out of bed touting for me.

    ‘fit too’?!?

Yet you go on to talk about being professional - that’s exactly the sort of attitude and comment that would actually stop me recommending someone, try to drag yourself into 2016 Toby...
