My thinking is, you can try something bigger that they suggest & if it's within your budget maybe buy something similar later on

If those QTX subs are the active variety, they amp module in them contains one IC rated at 67 watts RMS (nowhere near the lies of 800w/1000w as quoted), a change to a better brand will increase your low end capabilities no end and allow you to run your tops in mid/top configuation, giving more headroom.

The HK stuff is indeed sexy, a bit pricey for me at the moment.
I'm liking the look of the Mackie HD1521 speakers, love the idea of the EQ on the back also to allow a bit more control.

I think I may look to swap my SRM450s for those and there is a local hire company that does rcf705as hire at reasonable prices (4 subs at £120 a day or something) along with my rcf 310a positioned further up the venue I'd think that'd be a significant improvement and cost me likely £500 +£120 per hire = affordable for me and just a small price increase for the client.

If you think srm450s are heavy you're in for a shock with the hd1521s. There's no putting those on poles unaided. Well not for me anyway. They weigh a ton! Nice sound though. Worked with a pair a few times.

You're not kidding, they certainly aren't lightweights by any stretch of the imagination, assistance will be needed to get them on/off tripods or poles. On the plus side they do sound very good, and in my experience don't seem to be prone to breakdowns, without wishing to tempt fate, I've not had a single issue with them in over two years of dry hire.

Haha yes I saw that they weigh just 1kg less than an RCF705AS which I consider to be heavy. I have ultimate support stands though which are rated at 68kg I think. Considering they'll likely be left in storage most if the time I'm not too concerned about weight.

It'll make up for me being a whimp using speakers that weigh 12kg each for most events.

I'm not likely to ditch my lightweight system in favour of these but should I decide to replace a 2x10" tops and the rcf 15" sub system with a pair of 15" these would I be correct in assuming running full range they'd likely be not far off?

You might benefit from professional dry hire of the HK rig? You would soon make up £4,000, especially with collection.
I would be a bit careful who uses it though, perhaps combine it for bands/large events with a 'sound engineer' to oversee operation.

When I say sound engineer, someone who understands PA and does the hauling about/setting up while you might be at another event. Charge £200-500 for the hire, factor in £50 for him job done. Most decent DJ's earn that in an evening, so perhaps hiring yourself is the best option as the storage or a system like that is a bit of a pain and poses a theft risk.

Certainly something to consider. Prices seem to be around the £300 mark to hire out a system, I'm not sure it'd be hired out quite as many times as I'd like though.
