I had somebody Saturday ask me "how do you feel when nobody is dancing". Very odd for a guest to be actually interested. The answer was, I don't really mind as long as you're having a good night and you enjoy the music. We had casino and photobooth there so it was bound to be a quiet dancefloor until they stopped.
I don't possess that charming way of pulling off a joke like "glued to your seats" etc. It would come across as an insult from me haha.

If I get a few token dancers, I occasionally ask them to spread out to make it look busy, or say something like, that dancefloor's not going to wear out tonight, but I aim the humour at those who are dancing rather that those who aren't. Sometimes all it takes are the first few to get stuck in. You can see twos or threes going "go on then, I will if you will" so a little prod in the right direction can help.
