Default Hawaiian themed disco. What music?

I've a 2 hour "hawaiian themed" disco coming up in a care home next week.

Anyone have any suggestions for what music to play?

Think I'll try and dig out my old hawaiian shirt for this one!

There is a fella who plays a ukelele and does a version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" (cant remember his name), Elvis "Rock A Hula Baby" and you might get away with "Wipeout" by The Surfaris.

    Have a look here - Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole

There's always the Hawaii 5-0 theme music too.

I've had that as a first dance song before!

To be honest, I know nothing about Hawaiian music. The only thing I know about Hawaii is the pizzas! Although even then I always used to burn them. But I've solved that problem. I now cook them in the oven at Aloha temperature!!

I'm wondering in Reggae would work (I know it's not Hawaiian, but it's beachy)

You have never watched Spongebob then.

Aloha is what I know it as, which is probably what the guests will think of.

Also is slack guitar or kī ho`alu (I looked that bit up).

This is like the israil dude. I prefer this to the slide guitar stuff tbh.
Its just Ukaleli music really which is quite fashionable everywhere now (i.e. Noah and the whale)

Probably but thats a completely different ocean/sea

I would question it definitely if Bob Marley started playing, but would the average guest??
Something like Small Axe is a great track with background music and may fit in, but I would want to keep it authentic.

In terms of tracks to party too - its just not the type of music you do that, although I gather its gone a lot more hiphop and reggaeton in recent years, but people think of Hawaiian music as the above. I would probably start off hawaiian and then see how it goes as guests will probably want to dance to stuff they know. i would stack up the despacito, hips don't lie, ricky martin, lambada, santana, gasolina, wild thought, danza kudro etc. Personally I would say its caribbean / hawaiian influenced if you don't have enough stock of tracks that people know.

A senior coconut does a few covers which are "tropical", only a handful are any good though IMO.

I've got one too on Saturday. All I can add so far is CMH tribute to the Eagles, steel guitar music I've used before.

Spotify throws up a few left field ones, including Pachelbel's Canon by Aloha Oe Hawaiian Music.

This would get some laughs. Jhonny Aloha (I assume a take on Jhonny ola from the Godfather)?
