Default Does anyone still use Adwords?

After we've all spent our free £75 (and some more) I was just wondering if anyone is actually making a success of it?

I was charged 40p per hit and after 3 weeks didn't get a single sale.
    So gave it up.

A combination or organic search and adwords still provide me with the majority of my new business (aside from the usual word of mouth and "I saw you at xxxx").

Facebook gets you interest, but it often feels like selling at a carboot. When I've run paid ads I find myself endlessly answering questions that are already answered in my promotions description and dealing with people who are either outright rude or just after a bargain at some insanely low price because they've seen a deal in another selling group somewhere. The questions I find the most frustrating are the "how much is it for xxxx?" when the ad clearly states the package price. These also tend to be the customers who lose the contract/my details/their sanity after they've booked or cancel after they've booked (losing their deposits, which always seems to come as a surprise to them).

In short, I've always got better customers from Google. Adwords can be very effective in conjunction with organic search (especially since Google started presenting more sponsored listings in the same format as organic), just make sure your ad content is good and you target your keywords/bids carefully. It's also good to have a smart website ready to receive them when they click through...

Following with interest as I only seem to attract tyre kickers with adwords.

My websites all rank well, and personally I always scroll past the ads if I am looking for something myself so not sure if it does still work - yet hear of others who swear by it.

Used it once, no good. Just paying for price enquirers.
