Helllp.... What speaker is right as replacement for Wharfedale EVP-X15
Hi there All,
I have a pair of EVP-X15 speakers and the one 15" speaker has gone (makes a raspy sound on bass) so need to replace but not sure what to replace it with - can anyone point me toward a speaker that would be sufficient.
Here are the specs
Key Features
300W RMS / 600W Program / 1200W Peak
45Hz -20kHz frequency response
129dB Max SPL
High Power, arrayable trapezoidal cabinets
90 x 60 Elliptical Wave Guide Horn with 1.75" (44mm) titanium diaphragm driver
ProTech™ Driver
+3dB HF Frequency boost switch (speakers)
Many thanks

So are you looking to replace one or both speakers?
It would also help to have an idea of typical use (So, for example, weddings for 150 guests, or 18th birthday parties etc.).
And an idea of budget would also help.

" What to replace it with suggests singular.

It would be of greater use if you took a screwdriver to it, and found the makers part numbers on the back. A quick look on Blue Aran will reveal many drivers fitting those specs at prices ranging from not a lot to large amounts, but whether any of those will perform anything like the original, well that's complete guesswork.

I saw that, but having a different speaker would really play with my OCD on symmetry.

Mine too, but I suspect the lad means just the driver inside, not the box outside. As I said, that's why we need the model number.
A quick Google for the animal required hasn't proved fruitful.

If you want a faithful, identical woofer to replace the faulty one - which believe me is the best route to take... Better speak to a Yamaha representative.

Now maybe I'm missing something here, but what's the link between Yamaha and Wharfedale?

Ahem!
Yes. Well. Hmm.
Wharfdale then.
Might be tricky. Better call someone & demo some yamahas!
Not sure how I managed to misconstrue the subject mind... But anyway in this position I'd likely do as Peter suggests & whip the woofer out to get a look at it. Maybe they used a recognisable brand & model but even if they didn't I'm sure a reputable speaker component seller (eg bluearan) will be able to advise on something suitable. If you end up replacing it with something different I'd advise you do both at the same time so both sound alike.

Sensible. Big problem is finding something with similar characteristics to the original. I once fitted some new drivers in some Peavey subs, and despite them being significantly higher spec than the originals, the operation wasn't a success. That's why I'm so keen to replace like for like.
Using something different is somewhat of a lottery.

Quite. Unless you get lucky & hit upon something with similar enough parameters (Thiele-small & the like) it's going to be a lottery unless you can find somebody who knows the original spec & they recommend a replacement
