Think I have played Proud Mary twice in 10 years. Both times when requested. Both times it bombed!

One of the few reasons I stopped 10 years back was the highly repetitive songs we played each week. I used to do a lot of childrens parties / school discos adding allsorts with the disco inc. games and competitions but the same God damn songs were played all the time. I had a good format that was well recieved with repeat bookings etc but it was just a bit tiresome. The same with other events playing the same tracks all the time. It did affect my dj'ing on some occasions I've got to admit where I just wasn't feeling it. If it was just this reason I probably could have tried to take a break from it but even just doing that it is hard when you are getting regular booking enquiries. Anyway I'm now itching to get back out and play those songs again along with many new ones I've yet to play out live. Reinvigorated

There are numerous songs I still can’t listen to after playing them too many times but there is a special place in my heart for Come on Eileen, Walking on Sunshine (Katrina & The Waves) and Hi Ho Silver Lining: I hate all 3 songs and would do my best to avoid playing them.
I used to always get a decent response to classic 50s and 60s numbers - and I only ever played the original versions - like the following but not necessarily in this order:
Chubby Checker - Let’s Twist Again (that version that most know and Jive Bunny sampled is actually a K-Tel re-recording and pales in comparison to his original recording).
Chris Montez - Let’s Dance
The Beatles - Twist & Shout / I Saw Her Standing There
The Swinging Blue Jeans - Hippy Hippy Shake
Roy Orbison - Oh! Pretty Woman
Beach Boys - Surfin’ USA
Chuck Berry - Roll Over Beethoven
Eddie Cochran - C’mon Everybody
Elvis - Jailhouse Rock / Blue Suede Shoes
Buddy Holly & The Crickets - Oh Boy
Bill Haley & The Comets - Shake, Rattle & Roll / Rock Around The Clock
Danny & The Juniors - At The Hop
Elvis’s 70s hit Burning Love was always a reliable one for me too.
