I think the meaning has changed somewhat because the chart isn't really an focus of Joe public anymore right? Who cares if something is number one? We had TOTP and the pepsi chart show on the radio and it was a big deal but what is there now?

I just class it as they want mainstream popular tunes of the past few years. I always ask for particular song requests as genres such as chart are often wildly misinterpreted so chart could be Stormzy, Walk the moon or as someone mentioned, Yazz

As a teacher it's fascinating to see what the kids pick up on via TikTok. 3 years ago if they'd walked into class and I had Kate Bush on they'd have been like "what's this crap old music you're playing Mr JBJ?!?!?!?"

Lads, I agree with you both, and Jim, I'm

It's often surprising when an old song gets a new lease of life, especially if you aren't familiar with the reason why. Hall and Oates- You Make My Dreams did this years ago, apparently because of some video game.
Excalibur. Older than the average DJ.

I suppose it's always happened - think Bohemian Rhapsody in Wayne's World but with the internet and mass spreading of content it's exploded in the past couple of years. You know for a fact labels will be actively trying to game this so their legacy artists get viral hits - 0.02p x a billionth views is still a decent chunky of money.
