I have just received a multi-coloured long rope light from fleabay. I always check the size of fuse fitted in the attached 13 Amp plug. The rope light had a 13 Amp fuse fitted. This is MUCH TOO LARGE for a small load like an L.E.D. ropelight. A 3 Amp fuse is more suitable and safer as the supply flex is small. And if a fault develops in the rope light controller we would want the 3 Amp fuse to blow and clear the fault rather than it causing other equipment to go dead due to another fuse blowing upstream.

Most small L.E.D. lights should be fused at 3 or 5 Amps. The only exception is where a large initial current is experienced at turn on due to a large current inrush.

Generally speaking a 3 Amp fuse should protect equipment up to about 750 Watts.

Zog.
