Other people's stuff - anything that wasn't a loose wire was a switched mode power supply problem, namely the primary input switcher had gone short circut (BANG!). Active speakers, lights - you name it. If it's got a switched mode power supply inside chances are it's gonna go bang sooner or later
Yep, electronic stuff does not last forever, especially if it is of Chinese economy manufacture. Also it does not like running in hot environments such as powered speaker enclosures, or poorly ventilated enclosures.
Most double wound transformers seem to be more reliable than switched mode power supplies I find.
