I've adjusted my eq since the change. I've pulled the bass back a bit (which I assume means I'm giving my speakers more headroom not sending as much low frequency to it?
And last night was a family function so spent the night out front with a prepared playlist playing. From the front I found the sound quality remained constant no matter where I was in the room which to be is the biggest benefit.
And the loss of clarity I found meant out front there was less 'shrill'.
Mr Brightside still sounds awful either way!

As it did with us in stereo last night.

Now that I can believe. It's one of the worst mastered songs out of the last 2 decades: it sounds so compressed and 'muddy,' like an mp3 file at 32kbps.
I also used to have issues with that awful Girls Aloud track 'The Promise' when that was popular. I bet that wouldn't sound any better in mono either.
