I had the organiser for an event come up to me and suggest a change of musical direction... "something edgy". Example given? 'Love Shack'! :confused:

Last night, a client asked me why people weren't dancing yet (half way through the first song after she'd asked me to start ramping it up. The song I chose was E, W & F 'September' (Danny Krivit Re-Edit) as it flowed well from the music I'd already been playing. She then said, "Can you pump it up?". And stood there waiting for me to "pump it up"... apparently turning the bass pan-pot up one click counted as pumping it up :confused:

The above was followed by 'Jump (For My Love)', 'Mamma Mia' and 'Raining Men (DMC Remix)' - this all-ages so-called "party crowd" cleared the floor for Mamma Mia and emptied the floor, again, a minute before the end of 'Raining Men'...

Apparently their idea of partying was going to the garden bar and getting blotto... typical hospitality types, eh?

Even looking at age range at gig you can't guess the tunes that will get them up. One night, young'ish guests, gets a request for can you play some RockNRoll. Didn't expect that, but that got them up.

As mentioned in another thread, Managers/Etc think you should know what track to put on to make them dance "Now".

Once you have had a request in for one or two tracks, then they get up for those and you get an idea of what to follow with.

Like all of us "Sometimes you look around noticing everyone politely chatting and think these lot are going to be hard work to get up and dance". But No they are up all night dancing like nutters.

Then you get the crowd who seem to be having a laugh and joke early on, all these want to do is stand around near the bar all night.
