Playing a song more than once if requested?

Hi people,
When Im doing the kids discos at the local pub I have been getting kids coming up and asking for a song that has already been played before, somertimes upto three times already. As Its them Im playing for I will play it but announce who has asked for it. The last time I did it at the pub oine of the members of staff came upto me and asked if thats all I had because it kept getting played.

What should I do?

1, Keep playing it when its been asked for to keep the child happy.
2, Only play it once and tell the child its already been on.
3, Tell the member of staff if they can do a better job then do it

At childrens discos I do do this if requested ...... If its say a 2 hour gig I may play a track at the start and if it gets asked for again may play it in the last half hour , I don't do this at adult discos and infact do my best to only play one track by a specific artist unless requested by the client or guests.

If they were in the toilet at the bar having a fag ... tough really. just think it sounds a bit wrong to play the same track twice.

I guess its your choice in the long run and if you think it should be player again.

When this happends to me if i believe that this song is good enough to play again and that they will like it i will just annonce the fact its been requested again. job done. and if anybody says anything just state it has been requested. but never play the same song more than 3 times max if that.

hahaha yes, my friend who used to DJ at the pub told me a very important saying that I have always DJed my.

"No matter what you play you are the biggest IDIOT in the room, you can never play one song that everyone will like at the same time"

"If a song is requested that doesnt go well with what your playing, announce who requested it, then the people hate them"

Quite common for me to pick 2/3 songs they respond particularly well to during the early part of the night then wrap up with those at the end. Right now it's 'Don't stop me now' by McFly. A few weeks back it was the new cover of 'Barbie Girl'. Fickle things, kids :D

I don't play CF more than once though, no matter how much they plead :p

Hi Dragon,

If it's a kids party, I'd say play it when requested...even if that means you end up playing it several times.

Each time I had it requested, I'd ask for the child's name, so you can announce that xxx has requested you to play it again.

That should stop the pub people coming over & asking if it's the only song you've got!

Although I try to avoid it, sometimes if I've played a track during the early warm up period, I will play it again if requested later on when the punters are in the mood for dancing.

If there are any young children around I quite often play High School musical in the background while I'm setting up which keeps them happy and they usually dance to it rather than slide across the floor on their knees.

Last Saturday, I played the whole of the first High School musical as there were a few children there while the hall was being setup. Later on in the evening had a posse of children come up to me to request High School Musical again. I asked which particular track as I would play it if the floor quietens and they said not one track, all of it.

So children do seem to like to hear the same track repetitively.

Can't see any problem with playing a track twice or three times.........if it's a good one and 'whoever' requested it danced to the tune ....no problem.

At a wedding someone asked for 'Cascada'...Everytime we touch..........10 girls getting up giving it rock all............i played it 3 times......not my cuppa but got people moving about..........

If its particularly popular for the evening--

I played Rhinestone Cowboy at least 3 times last Friday---

Arms waving around like "Sailing" or "Youll never walk alone"

Mind you it was a Country and Western evening---yee ha! :D

Yes, but in your example, 10 people get up and go nuts... How many people can't stand the song you've now played three times?

But yeah, for kid's dos play the same song nine times if that's what it takes. For adult dos it's rare that I play a song again (though occasionally I'll play 'Mony Mony' some time after 'Back to the 60s' (which has a snippet of 'Mony Mony' in it).

It's like the battle of the Somme, just when I repulse one attack, a fresh wave comes in, first request always Crazy Frog, and they also want it again before they leave, so I have been known to play it over six times in an afternoon! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:eek:

Phill had to play Soldier Boy three times last week at his schools disco (I think I know all the moves to it now :lol: )

He also had one of the Year 7 girls come and tell him he was Fit! Oh dear, that 'girls always fall for the DJ thing' has started already :eek:

I've played songs more than once at my residency as there are always people coming and going. I have learnt from experience that certain people always ask for the same song so it happens less now as when they are waiting to get served I'll play "their" song. For example one woman always asks for Amy Winehouse - Valerie, another for Scissor Sisters - Don't Feel Like Dancing, another for the Dirty Dancing medley (which I now have thanks to you guys) etc...

It does seem to get them on my side and I seem to get less hassle from them after that.

I suppose the other thing is, if you work in a bar or club, then you might have people in and out all night, so that might warrant playing songs more than once.

I have just got back from doing a 50th birthday party in Peterborough (211 miles away from where I live in Sunny Dorset), where 'Valerie' was requested over and over again all night, and although I very rarely play a record twice, I ended up playing it 7 (yes seven) times! After 7 times I resfused to play it any more! BTW gig was from 7.30pm - 3am. And yes, floor filled each time

It's not something that's happened to me at a party before, and hopefully it won't again. Or does that happen in othere counties?

So It appears to be a floorfiller and the newest entry into the 'cheese' folder
