hi . .can anyone help please . .i'm unsure as what speakers to use with my amp . .i would run two loudspeakers as i get booked alot to play at sport halls.etc . the amp i use is PEAVEY CS 800 X. . it states 420 w rms into 4 ohms,600 w rms into 2 ohms per channel . . . and . . . .840 w rms into 8 ohms,1200w rms into 4 ohms bridged . . someone said i would need two 300w rms 8 ohms speakers and these would work fine????thanks

Please take a minute to introduce yourself in the newbies forum.

You need to check what the amps output into 8 ohm stereo is, but judging by the other specs i'd guess it's around 300w, in which case 2 300w speakers would be fine.

Although best practice is to allow a bit of headroom, so you could use 2 x 200-250w 8ohm speakers and that would be fine as well.

Or.. you could get some 350-400w 4 ohm speakers.

Seriously, Danno is bang on. If you wish to (try ) to do a bit of future-proofing, consider getting a size more powerful speakers than you actually need now, in case you feel the ( often uncontrollable) urge to get a bigger amp. The Peavey CS is a real workhorse, but not exactly massive. If you got a suitable pair of speakers now, then if you wanted to upgrade to something say up to 750w per side at 4ohms in the future, it would save changing speakers as well. Just as a guide to options ( not necessarily best prices)

Why would you do that?? If you run mid/top on mono, you would loose all of the effect that so so many songs use stereo to create.

Surely the only thing you would ever do this to is bass cabs.

Both previous posts are technically correct, but since we spent ages saving up to achieve stereo, well I have to say Bob's argument is where I put my money.

thanks so much for the info people!! lots to think over here,but will say that peavey amp is a strong work horse and weighs in at a heathly 47lb !! not to good when you got to walk up stairs to set up . .
