As mentioned in Rob's thread I've just got back from an Asian Wedding (though we call 'em Indian, down 'ere) with around 230 guests.
Great night!
The Bride and Groom were heavily into R'n'B, a la Babyface, Boyz II Men, etc. (and 80% of their special requests were between 97 and 103 BPM), but they'd also requested loads of pop and disco and Latin (and the groom's mum had requested Panjabi MC 'Mundian to Bach Ke'!).
I kicked off the background music with a mixture of K-Ci & Jojo, Bryan Adams, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and LL Cool J - switching between R'n'B and ballads which was well-received.
Following the first dance the bride and groom had specifically asked that I play another slowie before getting into it but hadn't stated a preferred song. Normally, I'd pick one of their own slow-song requests but this time, in order to ensure appeal with the older guests, I chose one for them - Al Green 'Let's Stick Together'... went down gangbusters! Virtually every couple in attendance was on the floor. Followed that up with the Ultimix Medley of 'ABC'/'I Want You Back' and then into 'Staying Alive'. The floor stayed rammed for the first 90 minutes, solid.
I'd been asked to play some Bhangra/Desi if possible so I played at various times during the night Nelly Furtado 'Promiscuous' (Josh-Desi Remix), SNAP 'The Power of Bhangra' (SNAP! Vs. Motivo) and the aforementioned Panjabi MC 'Mundian to Bach Ke'. The winner on the night was definitely the SNAP! remix... guests in their 50s boppin' about the place with big goofy grins on their faces :D
A most enjoyable night all round, not least of which for the eye-candy ;)
