watt rating help

Hi i have the prosound 12 speakers from Maplin's. 400w @ 8Ohms.

i have a skytec 6500 amp 2 x 250w @ 4Ohms minium and ive been told ill only get 125watts each channel.

if i was to buy this amp how much wattage would i get out of each speaker?

@ 8 Ohms per side 250W
@ 4 Ohms per side 400W

In order to get the full 400W you need to have 2 speakers in parallel on each channel.

do you mean i get a 1/4 jack lead into a 1/4 jack lead and connect them together?


and if i did this with the 2 x 250w amp i have at the moment how much power would i get?

you would only get 250W and that is it.

At 8 ohms, you'd only get about 125w per channel then, which wouldn't really drive your speakers properly.

To drive your speakers fully on their own, you'll need an amp that will do about 500~600W per channel RMS into 4ohm, which will give you about 400W per channel into your 8ohm speakers.

Tha ampm you are referring to is the old model, and thw answer as previously stated is 250w per channel. ( and not very impressive at that)

wouldt that pop my speakers?

they are 400w @ 80hms and the amp at the moment is 2 x 250w @ 40Hms minium. what is loudest i can get my speakers without them poping?

and if i brought that 100w amp form £100.00 how much more power would i get?

Your speakers are 200w RMS. Ignore the 400w, that is peak power that the speakers can handle for short bursts. The RMS value is the continuous power that the speakers can handle.

Your speakers are also 8 ohm so ignore the amplifier output at 4 ohms.

The 1000w Maplin amplifier gives out 200w at 8 ohms so will match your speakers that can handle 200w RMS.

Yes your speakers will be a little bit louder than using your existing amp that gives 125w per channel but a 75w increase is not going going to make much of a noticeable difference.
