Friday night returning home after my works xmas bash I received a call at 8.30 from the biggest hotel in the town....' can you help us out...our DJ has not turned up and we have a full venue waiting for the party to start'...after explaining that it would take me half an hour to load up my van and at least 2 hours to get there and set up as my wife would need to drive due to my earlier 'sherbets' they slammed the phone down on me!.....the fact that this same hotel knocked me back when they first opened prefering a cheaper and less experienced DJ.....I have to say I went to bed with a big smile on my face.....Saturday just topped off the weekend...it was a gig I must admit I wasnt looking forward too but it went just perfect..every tune well received, full dance floor all night and not one person left until the end[12.30]and they gave me a standing ovation after the last dance....the first since my Butlins days in the 80's...so all in all a wonderfull start to festive season....Merry Christmas folks!!

Well done. That round of applause at the end of the evening is so rewarding.

I must say, I'd take great pleasure in what happened to you on Friday too...
Maybe I'm just evil! :p

It is surprisisng how often things like this appear to come round to pay back the original " wrongdoer". I once had a similar thing with a customer who had turned me over previously who then ended up with me intending to walk away from his daughter's high profile wedding, unless I got recompense! It was nice to have such a good bargaining position.;) :D
It's nice to be nice!:)

Maybe, but doesn't it feel good when you can say "NO" to those types.
I enjoy it when people who say "You're too expensive" phone up, expecting you to run around and get them out of a jam, discover that you are already booked. :D
My best one was a private function in a venue that said I was too dear for them. At the end of the evening they admitted that I was worth my quote.

Good on you mate - well done on the Saturday gig - a round of applause is always welcome - I even had my ATC kids do it at my gig on Friday evening - and they were all around age 16 so felt very appreciated. Also had an booking enquiry from one of the lads there for his birthday in March.

Well done mate for both the good gigs and also what you said to the hotel too. In August I went to a local 'posh' hotel to show my PLI and PAT documentation as I had a function there in early September. When I met the lady in charge of the bookings etc, I thought I would do a bit of fishing for business. I asked the usual questions "Do you have a current Disco supplier?", "Are you happy with them?"..etc etc...She was quite offended by me asking and even said quite rudely.. "Excuse me, we use (I won't say the name...to be honest, I can't remember) and they have 7 DJ's available and they are excellent. They are the only people we use and we will not be changing them"... "No problem, just thought I would ask" I said and I left her some cards and an information pack knowing that full well she would chuck them in the bin afterwards.
I walked out of there thinking the worst of that ahem...'lady'. Anyway, about 2 weeks later (a week before my booking), she called me on a friday night. I was in the bath and she spoke to my wife. My wife explained that I was on my way out to work and the 'lady' was again quite rude and mentioned that the reason she was calling was because she had been LET DOWN BY THE DJ for a function THAT NIGHT!!!...I simply laughed and then when the night came of my booking, I saw her in reception and she gave me such a dirty look that I had to ask her if there was a problem...."No...no problem thankyou, could you make sure you finish on time this evening" she said and that was that.
If she had been nice to me before then I may have gone out of my way to get someone for her on that night but I have a good memory. You did the right thing mate and I would do the same thing over and over again if I had to.
Oh, and as an extra piece of information....the DJ company who they thought were reliable and excellent who NEVER TURNED UP..and who I can't remember the name of....Well, I got my missus to email them an enquiry regarding a wedding at the same venue and guess what...3 months later and still no acknowledgement from them...Yes, they must be very good, so good that they are so busy not turning up or replying to enquiries.
