where to get mackies?

what i say is shop around but i would say get a listen to some other speakers first like classD,void,ev, kam,db,walfdales or even look at the thomman website the t box speakers dont look to bad oh and that other company the one people think i work for

im not getting mackies now because 'the box buy thomann' is louder and chaper. and i get a new amp as well :)

but ill still give you a test by my 'box bundle' and your new 'class-Ds'

In your opinion and you are testing the c300s rather than the SRM450s and they do sound different depending on the amp and mixer being used.

I used the 300s on Sunday and they do sound a lot different with a different mixer and amp.

I have 120kg of speakers and 70kg rack case (half full) and thats not including lights and the rest of the gear.

But they are 77kg each and that is rather heavy.

How do you know "the box" are louder than the Mackies?

I couldn't see a sound pressure level given for "the box"...but I believe the Mackies are 123db maximum...which is pretty high.

I'm not sure why you are confused and I didn't say anything was crap. The active will sound as good as it gets as the driver and amp are perfectly matched.

If you are using the 300s, it depends on what you are driving them with to what they sound like.

On Sunday, I heard them with a Gemini amp and Numark mixer and they didn't sound as good as the 450s do IMO.

Like I said, if they are as good as some say, you shouldn't have to use the active version to show they are better than passive Class-D's. If the designers have got it half right, then an active version of a passive speaker really should beat the passive.

Well they wouldn't, would they? We are trying to ask how the 300's would compare in a side by side test versus the Class-D's' using the same amps, cables, mixer, mixer settings, and music source. Steve says , as might be expected, he prefers the Class-D's. You then say, " Ah well, but the 450's are much better" . Since they are active, they certainly should be, so it's not a valid comparison!!!:bang:

As a side note to all this, last Friday Nick needed some extra souind for his gig so we sent him out with his Mackies & an old set of 12" Idex speakers. These were run off the same mixer (obviously) & identical amps. The Idex had way more bass response than the Mackies & it took a hell of a lot of tweaking to get a good balanced sound from this combination. The Mackies were all top whereas the Idex were all bass. I think we eventually got it right & it did sound good. (I was in the same venue in a different room)

I stand to be corrected, but surely a cab with 15" drivers has a fair chance of more bass response than one with 12", unless we are in amazingly wildly varying price ranges. This is the only reason I'm sceptical of the Mackies.

BTW I have heard Twinspin's 450's and yes they sounded superb, so I like to think I am fair and open minded about these things.

Although I heard Darren's 450's a few months ago, he was also using subs, so I wasn't able to make a comparison with my passive jobs.
