Has anyone got any pre-recorded countdown voic overs....can you buy them?

I agree completely.

If I booked a DJ for new year's eve and he played a pre-recorded countdown leading up to midnight, I'd be unimpressed.

I think it HAS to be done live on the mic.

I use this (http://www.philbearman.co.uk/theme_03.htm) - well worth rigging up if you can... just make sure you hit 'play' at the right time :p

Or, there's a guy usually sells a dated countdown jingle on eBay for a couple of quid for charity.

There's nothing stopping you running either of these and using the mic. for reinforcement, which is what I do and it always works brilliantly :o

One thing about the countdown...

...I always use my digital watch, which I set to the correct time earlier in the day, so I know it's spot on.

I always find that although I do the countdown from 10 to 0 bang on time, the punters do it a bit slower...so by the time they say "zero" we're already a couple of seconds into the new year...not that it really matters of course!

This year it's my 1st NYE gig and need to get it clear into my head when to start the countdown. Do you start the countdown on the 1st gong or zero on the 1st gong?

Just a live countdown on the mic from 10 to 0, announce the new year & wish everyone a happy new year & then go straight into Auld Lang Syne.

I believe the first gong signifies midnight, in which case you should be on Zero when that gong is heard.

we tend to go to the big screen for the last 10 min of the year to hear big ben live also gives you a little break before it goes mad again for the last 2 hours

I have the Mastermix New Year CD... there's all sorts on there.

As well as a complete mix (start it 9 minutes before 12.00) there's 10-0 countdowns, Noddy Holder yelling "happy new year" and the 30 second "conundrum" clock from TV "countdown".

am a bit of a stickler for tradition but would like to try something different...

I use the Phil Bearman countdown video. You press PLAY at 11:00 on the dot and it shows big ben with the hands moving around and various overlaid graphics. Then at midnight you get the chimes.

It's a real attention-grabber when you kill the other graphics and dump this on.

There was someone selling jingles on ebay and one of the tracks was a countdown.

I use radio 2. I keep an eye on the radio and when big ben is about to strike, I say a little something on the microphone, fade it into the radio and ding dong ding dong ect ect. Works great for me. :)

A couple of years ago I tried to fade in to BBC News 24 on my laptops DVB card. It was a couple of minutes to go and I started up the software decoder and...


Nothing! :eek: No flipping digital signal! Cue up the Big Ben chimes and do it manually!

The guests remained blissfully unaware that anything was wrong but it was panic time for me (especially as I'd been practising the music-to-tv transfer for weeks and never had a problem at home!).

Its 12 O'clock when the DJ says its 12 O'clock. Play Big Ben, then onto Auld Lang Syne and for me in Scotland a mixture of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and RunRig. Happy Days.

For time keeping I use my bed side clock which is one of those radio controlled clocks that also projects the time on to a wall. http://www.weather-station-products.co.uk/item--Easy-Thermo-Projection-Clock--RM622P.html The time is updated hourly and is SPOT ON!

I use Ots which has a timing function on it so I can pre programme a countdown, say big ben and save it. I set the time say @ 23.59.45 secs so no matter what I am playing, no matter if I'm in the loo, at that precise time down to the second, whatever I have decided on, will automatically fade in and the other deck will fade out.

Then it's a big "Happy new year to you all", Auld Lang Syne, then the silly stuff normally the hokey cokey next and then knees up time http://planetsmilies.net/party-smiley-551.gif
