amp advise

Hi all,


most of you know that i want to buy a bundle of speakers and a amp.


i found this one aswell, but cheaper by £200.00 only because of the amp.

do you lot reckon this amp is worth buying?

ellaskins on youtube said the amp from the £550.00 bundle is of a decent quality.

the cheaper one is slightly quiter but is it worth saving £200.00?

Hi there,

The first link you have, the 800w amp and the 2 400w speakers... I use that exact package from time to time. I find it really good. True, the speakers weigh a tonne, but the 2 cones give it really solid bass.
I also have the JBL version of those speakers, and you can't tell the difference at all.
They are very powerfull speakers, and can fill a nedium size room with good sound no problem. The amp is quite good too, never had a problem with it. My main amp packed up once during a gig, and the e800 powered 4 4ohm speakers no problem. I was riding the clip lights, but stayed stable for the whole night.

Hi There,

Yes, The QSC is a good make, but reflected in the price. Ive used them, and to be honest, iv not really noticed the difference that would justify the extra cost.
With behringer, I've had some bad experiences. The equipment has a very poor impedence tolerence, anything more than two speakers is going to struggle, and it can overheat.
Peavey, I have always found to be rock solid. The speakers can handle a huge ammount op power, and the amps are very stable. The only thing I dont like with the peavey equipment is the sound. It has always sounded very harsh, or over powered. Thats just a personal opinion though.
With the thomann gear, I have only good things to say. The cost is great, the big speakers sound fab, and can take a great ammount of abuse. the speakers weigh a little more than 45 kg, so they can be a little awkward, but u can get away without subs for most events.

Just took a proper look at the peaveys, and i would steer clear of them for mobile disco use. i'v used them as a sound engineer, and they are basically a copy of the EV Sx300's. They are really more intended for vocals, and would most definatly need a bass bin with them, as they only have a 10" cone. Also, they aren't meant for heavy use or bass, and fail quite easily if you push them. The cones are made of something flimsy, and tear quite easily.

I would reccomend the thomann package you had in the first post. The two big speakers, two leads, and the amp. It's never let me down yet, and iv been gigging it for over a year, bringing it to gigs in the back of my car! The only time I had to push it anyway hard was in a hall where I had no stage, and a really long dancefloor catering for 600 people. It did the trick though.

I don't know if anyone else will agree with me on this, but I thing behringer is a bit sub standard when it comes to the amp and speaker side of things. The ratings they advertise can be somewhat misleading, like the maplin systems. The thomann box speakers are 450watt rating, and thats RMS. I've pushed them on a 600w amp at full speed, and they survived!

If you had a bigger budget, I would reccomend a set of Ev Eliminators, cabs and bins, and the two EV amps. I used it in a function last week, and it sounded fantastic. But it can be very expensive!

If you do get the thomann system, consider adding one of the behringer processors at some stage. I use the multi processor (9363 or something like that) that does gate, limiter, compressor ect. It can take a while to get used to, but I use it to fine tune my sound to whatever PA system I use. Ten mins going through settings before the gig, and you can have it sounding really punchy and crisp. But that isnt anyway necessry, im just obsessed with my sound!

i know the cheaper one does 10w less each side on 40hms. but thats ok. i just want to know if it good at handling the preassure

Theyre's 200 pounds in the difference, i dont think its worth that for the 20 extra watts, wouldnt really be noticable.
The quality of the thomann amp has never let me down, so i'd definatly go for that one. Then you have 200 euro to invest in something else!

Maybe I was wrong about the bass in a 10" speaker, i can only speak for the evsx series i have used. I still wouldnt reccomend them for heavy usage though, in my experience they have never lasted long.
