Martin Magnum 550

My smoke machine gave in yesterday.......:( ...so i purchased a new one today....one of these (http://www.martinpro.com/product/product.asp?product=magnum550) .....got to say...it's absolutly bob-on...(Yes the MD did let me spend some brass...:D )

Maybe because it's new....but...tested it in the dining room....it took 45 min's to clear and that was only 3 short blast's.....:eek:

The only down side i found in the product was the kettle lead......it came without a plug on.........:( :(

I thought in this day and age everything came with a plug on.....or am i wrong....?

I think domestic products have to by law (I could be wrong though), but that wouldn't be the case with a smoke machine.

Could be forcing everyone to sort there own appliance out....so to speak or by putting the plug on yourself it's taking some risks and possible claims away from Martin......

The PAT for an appliance and a detachable lead are separate, so the unit can be tested with a known good lead, and the lead tested once it has a plug.
It is also because "For Professional Use" you may not be fitting a 13A plug, it may be a 16A or different again if in Europe.
Saving money instead of putting several leads in is the bottom line!!

Plugs do have to fitted to domestic stuff, but as Martin is in the professional market, I guess it's considered if you can't fit a plug safely, or have someone who can do it, do it, then you shouldn't be buying/using professional kit.

Spot on (as far as the chat I had with Martin regarding it went).
For reference, no Martin product comes with a 3 pin UK plug.

I know what you're saying, but even here in the UK you'll find that touring companies (for example) will use 16A CEEFORM connectors instead of 13A plugs.

That said, it's still an excuse for manufacturers to be cheap skates!!!:rolleyes:

Martin don't ship leads with UK plugs, you get an IEC lead with tails and a euro IEC with most of their products.

Magnum foggers are the daddy though!!! I have every confidence you'll be happy with it. Sadly most of the venues I service frequently don't allow the ole fogger to be used...or even the cracker...which is a shame.

I have a Martin Magnum 550 and I must say I am far from happy with it. The fog output is pretty poor and has always been from new compared with my previous fogger. Build quality is good though in its defence.

My RCF sub is the same..... powercon on the back to connect it..... When i got it mine had...... a foreign connector on one end and a powercon on the other. So i took the powercon off and made a mains cable for it.

As for foggers i have the next model up..... The Magnum 800. Thats a powerful machine.

Mine does exactly what the web footage shows.......:)
I've also bought the Pro Smoke Super ZR Mix with it.......another £20 but worth it IMO......:)

not to have a dig at the good old fogger!!! But I have found that whatever fluid you use someone always complaines about the smoke :mad:
So I invested in a hazzer, smoke not so dense and very smoke alarm friendly gives same affect as the fogger but at a more controllable rate
