peavey speakers

Hey all,
SO i went to get a demo on the peavey pro 15s, was all set on buying a set but now i seem to have fallen on my feet.

I turned up and the guy said he didn't have the pros and had set up the ULs for me to hear.

He said that the pro were not very good and he wouldn't sell them.

Now i agree the ULs sounded amazing and they were 500watts, but are the pros really not very good? I don't want the best in the world (i can't afford it) but i would like good quality.

I was surprised when he said the uls were £700 a pair.

Also he said that the 4ohms with the pros is not good for full range speakers, he said that 4ohm restricts the higher end punch. What do you think?

I would like 4 ohm speakers because to run a 300 watts speaker, ideally it woud want to be driven with 600w per side and amps that size get expensive.

SO what do you think?
-Pros - yes or no?
-8ohms or 4ohms - does it have a big effect?

I'm sure I remember recommending UL's over Pro's if you can afford it. Many
( most? ) people on here rate the Pro's so don't think either would disappoint.

Have never heard of impedance affecting sound quality before!! 4ohms would be my choice, if I didn't intend getting another pair to achieve it that way.

It's a long ride to Castleford for you, but £100 is £100 ! I suggest you shop around, or ask for a price match!

I had the ULs, and they were awesome. The guy I sold them to agrees, they really do sound great. Don't make the mistake I did and carry them by one handle though! Nothing a spot of Araldite can't fix...

Are you suspicious that the speakers you went to listen to were " not available" but some more expensive ones were:D :D :D

I wont take you out in the Mondeo sir because its rubbish--but I do have a BMW here to try :rolleyes:

Yes the UL15s would sound better because they have much higher sound handling and probably more bass--but then they cost 2- 3 times as much.

Not that you were given the chance to compare.

Having used the Pro 15s for 3years they are more than adequate for small to medium gigs--if you need more power or bass buy the subs--they are only £125 each.

I think the main advantage of the UL15s is high power from one speaker---
but against them is the extra weight--which I decided was too much for me so I went for the Pro 15s plus subs.

I believe VV does the same--(Vectis Vibe)

If you want to listen to all Peavey speakers I suggest you take time out and go to Peavey in Corby Northamptonshire like I did for a listen.

Yep - I have 2 pairs of Pro15s and 2 Prosub-P's (the active version of the subs).

Small gig = 2 Pros
Medium gig = 2 Pros, 1 Prosub
Large or outdoor gig = 4 Pros, 2 Prosubs

Well happy. I even quite like the much-maligned (well, by Rob anyway) teardrop handles :)

Paired with 1 or 2 Behringer EP2500s.

To be honest i wouldn't rate the guy but what he said nocked me for six.

My plan is to evenually run them with a set of 500watt B&C subs. So I think i will still go for the pros.
