Kids parties

Hi, not been on here for ages!. Id like some help regards kids parties, ages 5 to about 10 years old.
What kind of songs/ activities is most suitable for this age range, and how do you find working with the young uns?, hope you can help, thanks. And hi to people after not posting for so long.:)

Just don't forget the action songs. then you just can't go wrong.

Childrens discos can be very rewarding to do if all goes well and everyone enjoys them self.

Work with the parents and don't try and take over as I find most have a grip on things and will organise gifts/prizes for games, etc.

A bucket of sweets is handy for giving out.

Party songs a must as well as current stuff. 5 year olds do not always appreciate motown nor drum and bass. :D

No low-level lights due to low-level fingers.

Thanks for the help people. So i take it stuff like boybands, cheesy pop etc would be ideal?:)

That's quite a wide age range 5-10.

My 10 year old girl definately wouldn't want to be playing games that a 5 year old would want to play and I doubt she'd like a lot of the music a 5 year old would like either!

My daughter likes cheesy pop, party dances (Macarena etc), general chart pop. High School Musical is a must too!

play albums such as 'pop party 1....2.....3 etc.....' all young kids are loving rihannas' umberalla

Play to the older kids, the younger ones will follow or go crying to their mummies.

Cascada, Hannah Montana, High School Musical, Avril Lavigne, McFly, Leona Lewis, T2, Kate & Lily (clean versions of course), then all the party faves - cha cha slide, macarena, witchdoctor, follow the leader, barbie girl, saturday night, ymca, music man, caractacus etc. etc.

For the younger kids - some of the TV themes are good - Lazy Town, Sponge Bob, Bob the Builder etc.

As they nearer 10 (my eldest daughter just had her 10th birthday) High School Musical, and as already said the current Pop Party CD ( my daughter got Pop Party 5 for her birthday and loves it)

Loads of fun and games is the order.

Regarding the bucket of sweets - I take a bucket full to every gig, it helps to encourage the kids to join in. Just make sure they are not hard boiled or chocolate, and, in fact, no blue ones of any sort and if kiddies re under 5, I check that it OK to give them out. I always tell the person when they book that I bring sweets.
My bucket consists of Starburst, Chewits, Noami, Wham, Mojo's and similar.

Cheers for that, lots of usefull tips from everyone on this thread. Seems im going to have to get plenty of pop party and high school musci for the older kids.:)
