cd deck problems

hi everyone, & happy new year to you all.
my problem is when i put a cd into my decks ( be it pre recorded or self burnt ie vinyl transfer ) the deck read out says no disc. this doesn't happen all the time, so i can't pinpoint it down to a obvious fault. i've cleaned the lasers, but to no permanent solution. anyone got any idea's. by the way i done my first gig on new years eve, for which i received great positive feed back, ( despite deck problem ). i await your much appreciated replies. kindest regards.

Sounds like you need to get it serviced. What make / model is the unit?

Home burned CDs can be a bit hit & miss in some players, but if the problem is also happening with shop bought CDs, then there is definately a problem with your player.

It sounds like a visit to Mr Repairman is needed.

One of mine did this and was getting worse everytime i used it.... a few weeks back i took it to the repair man.....new laser......£40......
Laser went out of track or the position moved......so the man said....

Works a treat now.......:)

I really don't want to start up a gear wars debate, but Gemini don't carry a great reputation for great build and reliability. I would consider the cost of having the unit serviced and repaired, agains't the cost of a replacement set, such as the Numark CDN25 - which I think is very reliable. If you really wanted maximum reliability, look at getting a second hand set of Denons from a reliable source.

Well you have started a war now :D I've known both Denon and Pioneer decks having failed through defective or worn out lazer so going by your assumption, they can't carry a great reputation for build and reliability either.

I just think it is strange that when a higher priced brand has a failure it doesn't get slated as being rubbish but when a cheaper brand does it immediately gets a slating.

Perhaps you should of started you reply with "In my opinion" or else back it up with some stats of number of units sold compared to defective units because I use some Gemini gear and have never had a problem with it.

Of course there will be Denon and Pioneer units failing, and there will be Gemini units which get a good run. I don't have stats to back it up, only my own experience and the word of other working DJs.

i'd be tempted to just buy a new unit and get a new guarantee- i saw kam double cd players for £99 the other day, alternatively pay a little more and get some denons or such like.

I had the same problem with my Gemini CDJ 02's. The only way I could rectify it, was to turn the player off and on again.

I bought a Gemini and it did the same for me on occasions. My KAM's play anything every time. It may be worth getting the unit repaired - it depends on how old it is and what the cost will be and whether the engineer will guarantee the repair.
