Good start to the year already!

Happy new year and all that!!

I've had 4 enquiries today already for functions in January and February and it's filled me with confidence.

2 of the people booked straight away and both of them commented that they found me really pleasant and re-assuring on the phone and that gave them a good idea about what I would be like on the night. They also thought it was good that I said I would go and seem them beforehand (I do it always but they were surprised at this).

A couple of other comments which once again surprise me is that I was told by the enquirers that they had phoned around already and the people that they spoke to sounded as if they couldn't be bothered and it was a chore to actually speak politely on the phone.

What is the problem here??? Surely the hardest part of this job is actually getting the initial enquiry, be it a phone call or email? If you are sat there all day worrying that you aren't getting any work etc and then when someone does contact you, you aren't very helpful then it's pretty obvious to me why you aren't busy. If you can't be pleasant then what impression does that give to someone that doesn't know you, hasn't booked a DJ before etc..

As soon as my phone rings and it's an enquiry I go into business mode and do my best to get the booking without going over the top and it seems to work. I have lost count the number of times someone has told me that such and such a person has been very unhelpful. One lady said to me on the phone today that she had to put the phone down on one company / DJ etc because she thought that the person was rude.

I'm on a mission already to convert every enquiry into a confirmed booking. I'm not saying I don't always try to do that...some enquiries I have had in the past are functions that I don't really fancy doing...could be down to the venue or area etc..but I really am going to go all out this year.

Yes - it's been a good day for enquiries - a couple of odd (unusual) ones too, which is good! Let's just hope some of them convert!

Bad (?? or is it good ??) news is I had to say no to a couple of people because I'm already booked on their dates. Note to self: really must do something about multi-op this year.

What a great start to the year i have had. Now fully booked for Jan and 1 date left available in Feb and i have 4 bookings in Dec so far.All these booking's are through word of mouth as i dont advertise in the local press just yet.

I only DJ on a part time basis as i work away mon - fri in my full time job so i rush back on a fri quickly have food shower change then out the door to where ever i am working but i love it this way.

looks like this will hopefully be a good year for me.

Too be honest Only had one confirmed booking for august the 8th so far in last 2 months but with new yellow pages and yell.com listing maybe there may be a fair few more enquiries

Just a few more websites to list with and maybe things will be looking more rosy

Have you tried the directories on the web. I hear they have a fair collection of djs listed. ;)

Got 3 confirmed weddings and a few partys so it's not all that bad...but now Dave (Dragonfly) has his Gold listing back the stakes have just shot up!!

Things are looking quite reasonable so far.

I have 14 weddings booked for this year and one for next year, which is a couple more than I had this time last year & this time 2 years ago.

I'm usually lucky to get one booking in January, but I have a couple...a 50th birthday & a wedding, so it's shaping up to be quite a good year.

I'm on here at silly o'clock, went to sleep and woke up at 3.40am arrghhh!!
I had another enquiry late last night and it's for an Indie night for a 40th birthday so it's great news. The guy didn't expect it to be me and mentioned that he was a regular at an Indie night in town (my night) and wanted something like that but he didn't think the guy who did it (me!) did private work. When I told him that he was talking to the guy who did the nights he was very happy and said that he couldn't wait to tell everyone that he had got me....it made me smile.

Rob, I have 23 weddings booked so far this year and it fills me with encouragement because this time last year (just starting my first full year as a business), I didn't have any booked. I would say half of them are word of mouth bookings too so it's all good.

This week is going well too. I had one call yesterday which was just a general enquiry I think (but at least people ARE calling) and I have had 3 today. 2 of them booked me there and then on the phone as they were passed my way by previous customers and the other called back to book me after he had spoken to his future missus.

I hope this continues!

just goy home from working away this week and had a neighbour book me for birthday in a club in poole dorset so i am happy with that makes 12 bookings so far which means i have only the first weekend in feb free now lets see how march does.
