great gig new years day night

done a gig new years day night ( still feeling ill with flu ).
arrived 7.30 to set up small venue 9 pm start quiet to start off with but about 10.30 bar was packed.I played a mixed bag of music from the 60s through to present day. I kept getting asked for robbie williams so played rock dj, kids,come undone then someone asked me to play rock dj again so i played flat dj (flat eric & rock dj) went down a storm.
Here are some other tunes that went down well
1 yo bum rush the show ( public enemy & pigbag )
2 where the Streets have no name ( u2 & the streets )
3 wu tang blues ( wu tang clan & hillstreet blues )
4 barbie girl
5 house of pain jump around ( its a classic )
6 dj mark king and the 900 number
also played some comercial stuff.
what a great night

I also worked on new year's day night...I managed to do my regular Tuesday pub quiz night, and managed to get 7 teams together...which is pretty much how many I have on a normal Tuesday.

I thought that was very good going for new year's day, which is hardly a popular night for people to go out after the night before!

New years day night was spent sleeping, and I have done very little since!

Cos not many people know many Northern soul tunes. (I was talking about in a main set rather than background - and I have played it a few times, but not to a great deal of success)

I have had it requested twice. Not a great strike rate for thirty-five years, eh? I am surprised that the recent advert for Lambrini has not brought it back to mind.
Northern Soul is a curious beast, in that some of the most prized, revered, and highly regarded tracks have apparently had the least public approbation. I freely admit to knowing just enough of the Genre to get by. There are some great tracks in there. I can almost feel a thread coming on in the Music Forum about this.;) I wonder if we could wind Steve up by bringing Tamla Motown into it?:confused: ;) :D

But you'll get that with any genre. I've encountered "DJs" who think bunging on "Grandmaster Rock" constitutes a Rock set, or that Jive Bunny is an acceptable Rock 'n' Roll set. It happens, these people will never get the good paying jobs, so let them get on with it.

I got asked for Jive Bunny for the first time ever on NYE and I took great delight in announcing that I don't have it.

I did, however, play a blinding jive set to 'whoops' from the crowd with every new song :o
