As this subject has been done to death, please have a look round the forum and then report back if you can't see any advice.

if i was starting now,i would look at the acme dynamos and impossiled.we have the 100w version of the dynamos and they are great lights, struggle a little with brightness in larger venues though, they now do the 250w version but haven't seen them in action so can't compare.there are plenty of videos of the imossiled on you tube.agree with the others about searching the forum but remember what the best light was 6 to 12 months ago may be well down the list of vfm now:zip:

as said have a search but with lighting id say think about what gigs you do and the market you are aiming at ..... its very personal but i don't like scanners , i had dynamos .....great lights but people were blinded by them and i could see alot of people sat with their eyes covered for long periods...

great if you are going into dmx and program them and ive seen some shows that do this with great effect.

You could look at a pair of Datamoons... 250 watts so nice and bright... you can get 2 in a flight case, complete with link cables & controller, for about £180 if you shop around.

(try electrovision)

I have a datamoon on top of each speaker... saving stands... each is held on with a couple of captive bolts & wing nuts.

The empty flight case fits nicely under my console stand, and supports the amp rack at a handy height.

You haven't said what your budget is though!?
£200? £500?...etc..

Look at some effects that will fill the dancefloor space and some effects that will scan the venue etc.. The Wildtech Fascination which I have mentioned before is an awesome projection like effect with some great patterns and vibrant colours.

Take a look on the other threads regarding light effects and have a look about to see if people are selling anything on here. That way you get something that has been looked after and also from someone trusted too. Up until a year ago I had just Moonflower and Twister type lights etc and then someone mentioned the Acme Dynamos and Dynarocks. I had never gone down the DMX route either and since I got these I haven't looked back. Yes, they can both be quite wacky as said already but they are good. The 100w Dynamos are still good and have gone down in price because the 250w versions have come out.

LED seems the way to go at the moment and the ImpossibLED is great for under £150 (I don't have one as yet as I purchased some LittLED's and an LED Boogie which are all good).

Take a look at online demos etc - Phase One are great for showcasing their lighting effects and a lot of their demos are available on YouTube. I found the videos very helpful when I was thinking about buying lights.

Good Luck!
