Looking for 2 new lights

Been looking at updating a couple of lights on my rig and decided I needed a couple with good floor coverage and bright enough to be striking.
Saw some one else using a couple of twister 4's at the weekend and they seemed pretty brights and covered the dance floor well. Unfortunantly I find them a bit on the expencive side for my current finances so if anyone can suggest similar lights for cheaper pennies it would be appreciated.
Things I would like would be.
1. Bright
2. Reliable
3. Linkable or dmx able
4. Good floor or room filler
5. Say budget of £250 for 2 lights give or take

Any suggestions would be nice

I agree with the datamoons. I use two linked together and they easily fill the dancefloor with bright sharp colours. you can pick them up for £100 each or buy the pack.

I've never seen the impossibleds for myself but on the videos they look impressive! definatley a contendor;)

Used a cyclope (impossibled clone) on NYE.
filled a room with 200 + people, only other lights were datamoon and 2 x led pars.

I use one.....i like them but....

I like it...use it most times, if it get's too much switch it off...that's what i do....:)

have posted this before but if it helps this is 2 impossibleds in a large school drama studio.

as you can see the impossibleds are very visible amongst the other lighting ... all 250w.

ANy chance of a breakdown on pro's and cons of the unit?

pros ......

no lamps, motors, overheating problems , massive spread 2 cover a large venue easily, lightweight, no fading of gobos etc.

cons .

large units , only 5 colours , a little on the quick side if you have no way of controlling them although this doent bother me.

And you can get a CA-8 for around £20 to do this.

can the stormbird not be slowed down ? I used to have the chauvet gobosplash (clone) a couple of years ago and it had a\rotary sensitivity control on the back. May be looking for a new light myself as one of my i-shows has just given up

Mine can't. Only way to slow 'em down is to play music with a slow beat.

I suppose if you tighten the prism up it may stop them going round....but i've never tried that or slowing the beat down...........:D

I also have a Stormbird and the only downside to this light is that it cannot be DMX controlled. You play a slow song, the Stormbird will perform slowly.

The stormbird is a great light and the beams are excellent - nice and sharp :)

Yes me--certainly for a basic cheap light its been very useful and effective.

I still have the original lamp working after a lot of gigs even after smashing it into a marquee dance floor in Northampton:eek:

I had a chauvet gobosplash which i think came from dfb, it was\exactly the same as the acme but had a rotary sensetivity control on the back which controlled the prism so you could stop the prism completly and just have the gobowheel scrolling slowly.

Ok after much deliberating and with help from all of you, decided to order 2 impossibled . Got them coming in some time before Saterday (I hope)
Thanks for the help and I will give a review when they arrive, may still get a stormbird and remove the controller so I can use a simple potentiometre to control prism and gobos change. As they are quite cheap it shouldnt break the bank to badly.

I've ordered 2 Impossibleds too and will more that likely use them as a centrepiece. I've also ordered a starville dmx master, so along with my gobobarrels, dynarolls and strobe I should be able to put on a relatively good show!

Was thinking about scrapping all the lights and having two moving head Martins, 2 martin destroyers and a roplight on a trullice. Thoughts, anyone? :)

Unless there's different models of Stormbird, they don't have one.

A trullice??? A trullice ?? are you made of money you could fit all that on a coat hanger .... less is more :D :D

As mentioned previously about Dynatwins being jerky on the slow pans/tilts. Can anyone highly recommend a 250W light that's nice and smooth on the slow cycles? Ideally I'm looking at barrel type lights but would settle for the flat mirror scanner type.

Well sticking with the Acme's the dynaroll (and presumably dynarock) are nice and smooth when run from a desk.

The Abstract VR Scanners or Second Hand Futurescans for the flat mirrors and gladiatiors for the barrel scanners

The Abstract gear does look tasty and considering purchasing some of the VR series soon. ACME are nice don't get me wrong, but I personally think Abstract is better in regard to build quality and performance :cool:
