Creating A Song

Hi all,


(sorry if this isnt the right area)


im making a song with one of my mates for the school concert in summer.

it is a club/hardcore/drum 'n' bass song.

but we dont know what software to use to create our song, we have the recordings sorted and lyrics etc.... but just need software to make it. any ideas?

sorry i didnt make it clear that its three songs were creating then going to mix up with each other.

there is lyrics in the club/hardcore

cant you go into the music block and use there computers in there to record this "song"

all depends on your budget. i use cubase 3 and its a really good piece of softwear. i use it for all my recording for bands ect.

you better start saving. lol

If you are just wanting to mix inputs and looking to do it on a budget then download 'Audacity'. Completely free and you can do a surprising amount on it. All you need is a relatively fast computer and a decent sound card. (you can do it with one input and layer up the tracks, but unless you have a relatively good laptop, if you are playing along to another layer, yours will not be in time).

If you have money to spend, go for cubase and again a good sound card/firewire desk.

If you are looking at creating the drum + bass bit on pc, then i have no idea.

cubase has VST and VSTi plugins. Do some reasearch on these as i dont wish to go in to detail. if you wish to do lots of recording in the future then i wouls sya go for cubase. its used highly in the music industry, same as logic aswell.

but if its a one off then use this Audacity. i have never used it so i cant give my opinion.

I'd suggest Sony's ACID XMC 6, cheap to buy, easy to use, and will do everything you want.

I use Orion Platinum and also Adobe Audition (formerly known as Cool Edit Pro).
I'm afraid to say that if you don't have the proper software then you haven't got much luck as you won't be able to get a version of these on the sly and if anyone does decide to copy (for example), Orion for you..it simply won't work without the dongle (Steinberg Key).
Best of luck though, I've done a DnB track myself just to see what it was like but most of my stuff is dark elecronica.

Look at Sony's "Acid". It mainly works with loops and is easy to get the hang off or Fruity Loops for the same reason.
If you are not used to music software i wouldnt recommend Cubase as its one of those things you really have to learn fully before you can do anything decent with it, we do 2 year courses at work on using cubase so it is time consuming where as the programs i mentioned would be more benificial to start with.

You must take a look at reaper - - www.reaper.fm. It's *uncrippled* shareware (and very cheap if you register). It will handle anything you can throw at it - audio, midi. Its a very capable prog. Possibly a bit daunting for a newbie, but no more than cubase etc. Secret with reaper is right click on everything for the context sensitive sub-menus. Its also tiny - you can, if you wish, run it totally from a pen drive and transport the prog and all the files from one place to another very easily. Its a truly amazing 3.2Mb install!!

Reaper is shaking up the audio world. The guy behind it is justin frankel (winamp, gnutella). The capability of reaper for a few £/$ is on a par with the big names charging several hundred £/$, and people are beginning to ask what they are paying the big names for, when they can do everything they need with reaper. Steinberg, with all their dongle nonsense must be really on the back foot. Excellent forum as well BTW.

:eek: Too right. No wonder there is so many cracks of cubase going around at the mo, nobody can be bothered with this dongle lark.
