4' Soundlab UV Light

Hi folks.

I little problem in regards to mounting a caged Soundlab 4' UV lamp onto a 4' Giraffe stand. I've gone out and purchased large g clamps and although they clamped the UV light onto the deckstand, the UV was getting in the way of the main flightcase. I don't want the UV on the lighting bar, want it in the centre.

Any guidance please?

Like I've explained, I want it mounted in the centre of the deckstand.

Would help if we knew what the fittings where on the actual unit? I am picturing rotating these through 90 degrees so pointing out the sides of the unit then gclamping those onto the bar... so the light is attached from both sides.... I think this would work on the fixture I have but not sure about yours....

The unit comes supplied with brackets but doesn't rotate through 90 degrees due to the size and the way the cage has been shaped in the manufacturing process. I'm going to try wrap some black gaffa tape around the unit see if that helps.

Why not just lay it on the floor infront of the deskstand?

And come on gaffa tabe to hold that on is abit dangerous dont you think... I have seen a UV strip smash when they have fallen and its a nice mess.

It is rediculous to secure something, especially a 4 foot fixture, with gaffa tape - should never be done IMHO.

Hopefully, you can fix two lighting clamps to the light, and use these to fix to the deckstand. It may require a bit of thinking, and a bit of spatial awareness, but it can't be that difficult, can it? :confused: ;)

Mmm I dont think it looks as good on the floor as it would in the middle of my deckstand. I've seen Dazzes and think it looks great. How do you mount yours Daz? And, does it get mounted onto a 4' deck stand?

better than being secured to something with gaffer tape!
They generally will not be a tripping hazrad if it is tucked close to the deckstand as people will not try to walk over it.

if you want to put it on a deckstand i suggest you do it securey and safely. Instead of relying on some sticky material which is all very well and I use in the theatre a lot... but should not be used to solely secure a fixture IMHO.

I did see cheaper UV lights and maybe if I bought the cheaper UV light then maybe I wouldn't of encountered this liggling little problem :rolleyes:

I haven't used a UV for around 2 years, but when I did, it sat on top of the deckstand on a piece of wood with a lip at the front, so that it didn't fall off.

Ah right, in fact I think I've seen wooden shelve units that fit onto deck stands, I'll look into purchasing 1.

Does your UV have 'keyhole' casing mounting slots on the back ?

If so all you need to do is fix two, correctly centred, pan head screws to the back of the flightcase and clip the tubemount onto them during setup.

Mine is fixed to the lighting bar by permanent bolts into spring tool clips which sit securely around the bar and are both easily set up & removed.

I don't use mine much but it has two connector sockets on the top of the unit. So, I suspend it just below my lightbar lights with some 25mm link chain that I bought from B&Q.

Because the light is 4' it is actually a little wider than the two downpoles so rests neatly against them.

Looks pretty good and the cable can be routed neatly up the chain on one side.
