As a rule I never have got involved with the kiddie party thing! having so many of my own getting away from the brats to do a nights work is a godsend

But tonight I got roped into a 13th birthday party by my neice, one of those "our Dj cant do it can you help things" 4 hours of R "n" B yuk!

being the good uncle of course i said yes!

got to the venue to find a very smart medum size hall with a large stage so was quite chufffed :)

then I saw the "rules" on the stage wall (there were quite a few) the main rule involving a sound limiter set at 87db! not so chuffed! :eek:

the whole evening was a nightmare because of this nasty thing, and just to make it more of a pain the moniter for the limiter was set on the left had side of the stage about 3 foot behind me so now I got a stiff neck:mad:

the thing was tripping out at just about anything even when the punters (about a hundred 13 year olds) sang happy birthday it tripped at that too!

but I got to say the kids were perfect and apart from the limiter it was a really good gig!

after the gig I was talking to the hall manager and told him I used to install limiters and he's made a meeting with me for tomorrow to up the limit in the venue as he thought it was to low as well!

so it just goes to show not all venue owners are a pain in the seating area! :cool:

It didn't take any effort really! 87db (if it's even that) is supidly low for any kind of entertainment venue, he was keen enough to see there is a problem and wants it fixed! just a shame there ain't more like him eh?

I also have to talk with him about repeate bookings as he was so impressed with the way I "handled the gig with the kids"

now there's a first! I don't like kiddie party's! double yuk!

As I've said before, it's not sound limiters which cause a problem, but sound limiters which are set too LOW.

I've worked in venues with limiters where I can play at my normal levels with no problems at all, and others where I would never go back...as you can barely play at background levels before tripping the limiter.
