What a nightmare of a childrens disco

Hi people,
Yesterday I had a real nightmare of a childrens disco at my local pub.

First I was threatened by the landladys daughter, this is how it went:-
Her = "Play me some eminem"
Me = "Sorry I cant for a kids disco"
Her ="Do you want to play here again?"
Me = "Yes"
Her = "Well play eminem then"

Second problem was the electronics. They never told me that all their equipment (I was using there equipment apart from my laptop) was plugged into a special plug socket that had a trip switch, the slight problem and it shuts off. So half way through the night one of the kids plugged something in the socket next to the one I was using which sent a surge and tripped the switch so all the equipement shutdown.

Third problem was they asked me to do karaoke with their equipment which was ok as I knew what I was doing. They didnt tell me that their CDs were absolutly rubbish and scratched to hell so none of them worked. So as people were disapointed when they came up they blamed it on me.

I sure as hell wont be doing it their again.

You can play Eminem to kids, There's a clean Eminem track on a Now CD. It's the only one I ever play to them, for this reason.( Even though they've all got the explicit version at home, and know all the words! )

RCD . Can be a nightmare. I had one combination of equipment which if used together was guaranteed to trip these! Individually no problems!:confused:

Pub Gear ? Older than me, and in worse condition:eek: :D :D :D :D :D Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggg hhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All part of this industry's rich tapestry. If you use someone else's gear and/or software then you always run the risk that it will not be up to standard. With your own kit and CD's you have only yourself to blame.

Get yourself an anti-surge extension lead. It will save your laptop from damage.

If you can run to the ones with back up power, the laptop won't even blink and external drives will stay on.

have to say i very much agree with the comments above.. i never use other peoples kit for that very reason.. apart from hijacking some built in lighting effects now and again.

As i have said on the forum before, they are hearing all these tracks on sky at home so they expect to hear the full uncensored versions and cant understand when we play tracks with beeps in.

Never use anyone else's gear.......enough said....lesson learnt.....:)

Normally I do use my own equipment but at this venue their wasnt enough room for it because of their equipment. Its set up perminatly, but surly if you were setting equipment up perminantly you would wire it to one of them sockets

I have always found owners children very prissy (any age)!!

I always get asked for d+b at weddings etc. there are always ways around it by playing other music which most will like amongst other party tunes (ie addicted to bass, or another favorite tune that wont be deemed offensive).

as with the cut out i did a gig recently with an environemtal sound cut out put in by the council. not only did it cut out when too loud (very quiet) but also when the fire door was opened (every 10 mins with people going out to smoke).

i had no idea what was going on as i was not told about it from the manager and it looked very unprofessional :( :bang:

Well being a venue owner - not all equiptment is crap or aincient.....
lol

but i dont allow any other DJ to use the equiptment (apart from built in light fx), and i have 4 speakers set up on wall in each corner of the room...

also full PLI & PAT is being asked to be be provided before gig.... lessons i have learned from the fine people on this very forum.


plus we dont allow 18ths or 21sts anyway...
