Welcome to The MDD Tavern... Come in, get a drink, put your feet up and settle down as the all new pub quiz is about to begin!
I'll ask the first question. The first post with the correct answer gets to post the next one, and so on...
Rule 1 - No googling!
Rule 2 - Don't make the questions too hard. Only about the level of a regular pub quiz.
So I'll start with Question #1:
Name both parents of Henry VIII (Henry Tudor)

With some careful grafting of the horn buds at the right stage of development, a goat's horns can be "encouraged" to grow into a single horn, thus making it a "living unicorn" - unicorn being taken literally as a "one horned animal" :)

Dagnabbit, before getting to this last post I'd already had Giant Redwood fixed in my head as the answer.
As far as largest animal is concerned surely the blue whale beats the jellyfish on mass, if not on length. It'd be like comparing a six foot tall man to a 7 foot long tape worm - the man is clearly larger.

Bingo!
Officially known as Armillaria ostoyae, or the honey mushroom, the fungus is 3.5 miles across. The small mushrooms visible above ground are only the tip of the iceberg.
Experts estimate that the giant mushroom is at least 2,400 years old, but could be 7,200 years old.
Previously, the world's largest organism was another Armillaria ostoyae, which covers a mere 1,500 acres near Mt. Adams in Washington state. There you go

OK, so my memory wasn't a hundred percent on...
"There are three kinds of fairy rings. One type has no mushrooms; stimulated grass growth reveals the activity of these fungi in soil (Fig. 1). Another type contains a ring of mushrooms as well as a ring of stimulated grass growth. A third type contains only a ring of mushrooms, with no evidence of unusual grass growth (Fig. 2). (http://plantclinic.cornell.edu/FactSheets/fairyring/fairyring.htm)
I was mixing up a plant that does something like this and the fungi, but still...
Oh, I also got the right environment, just the wrong continent:
"Mojave Desert: An interesting plant in this area is the Creosote Bush that over many thousands of years have formed rings." "One of these shrubs maybe the oldest living thing and it has been tentatively dated at 11,700 years old."
"The creosote bush (Larea divaricata) is a hardy shrub that grows in the Basin and Range country of the American Southwest. An original bush will split apart as it ages and the pieces will continue to grow radially outward. What appears to be a ring of bushes is really all one bush. The largest known creosote bush ring is 50 feet (15m) in diameter. Not large by these standards, but the bush is 13,000 years old."
Oh, unrelated but I thought this was interesting...
"Quaking Aspen (Populus tremuloides) trees have evolved to clone themselves when conditions are severe enough to require it. 106 acres of aspen trees in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah were discovered (in 1992 as well) to be genetically identical. 10,000 years old, and over 6 million metric tons in weight."

Very good Corabar Steve. Well Done:approve:
Heres the quote:
"Your diencephalon sits beneath the middle of your cerebrum and on top of your brain stem. It contains two important structures called the thalamus and the hypothalamus. Your thalamus acts as a relay station for incoming sensory nerve impulses, sending them on to appropriate regions of your brain for processing. It is responsible for letting your brain know what's happening outside of your body."

MDC - I knew of 'Millions of D@mn Christians' and 'Metal Devil Cokes', but there are about a dozen incarnations of this acronym.
Russell Crowe's side-project is a band called TOFOG which originally stood for 'Thirty Odd Foot of Grunts' but as at the last album stood for 'The Ordinary Fear of God'.
