thanks to help from callum i have some great looking business cards and flyers. ive handed them out and about, ive also been on a free ad site which is online and in fridays ad booklet.

now just got to wait for the calls.

This includes putting your business name and contact details on every email you send to everyone (friends, and friends of friends can be a good source of business but they can also be very good at forgetting you've started a business, eg. after they've booked someone... "Oh, that's right, YOU DJ, too").

get yourself a decent website. it is where 90% of my business comes from... and that keeps me perfectly busy!

Also try 'proper' advertising... if your advertising in only free ads they may think that says something about your service?!.... only my 2ps worth

As the comment above... good idea... make sure your family & friends know. Although personally I don't Dj for people I know... most of them want it stupidly cheap which isn't worth my while and the others are gigs I want to enjoy myself... and not work on. :)

personally if you don't know how I would suggest employing someone to do it to ensure it looks proffesional etc.

I did mine.. but I had experience beforehand... and have made some shockingly bad websites in my time :)

There are free ones, or do as I did and have a look at 1&1. You can get a basic 8 page website for about £25 a year and they do look reasonable. Nothing compared to pro designers, but then it will get you started.

If you want to make a good business which is getting lots of interest I wouldn't suggest using free stuff all the time.

You earn money which you can then re-invest in the business.

Use someone like 1&1 as Daz said or use SupaNames.com and go for the beginner package.
Both come with a free website template tool or the option to upload your own.
And I know from personally experience that Supanames gives you all the things you expect: subdomains, emails, free scripts etcetc.


Try using a free program called NVU (search it!)... it's ok but again I would sugest investing a bit and going for something like dreamweaver... personally I use DW8 as I got it part of the Studio 8 package which is pretty imense.... you can buy this quite cheap if you can proove your a student.

Bingo. I mean i have had one problem where i could not recieve emails from the hotmail accounts but i told the supernames admin team and they had this fixed in under 24 hours. great company.

I actually used a company called streamline, Paid £74 for a business pack, got the online site builder, email accounts, Hosting, advertising for 2 years. It has a very good site builder but i am in the process of submitting some new content to a new web designer i have just started to use.

well yes that's very true Steve.
But I would say one should always do a bit of research before employing someone.

Like look at their portfolio.. even contact some of their clients to see if they are pleased with the services provided.
