What Laser Should i buy

This year i am serious about adding a laser to my existing lightshow.I am willing to pay from £100 to £250 to get a decent one.

What can you reccomend?

Are the Equinox range any good?

I paid 99 quid for my 60mw Green Purelight Laser or The Big Dipper as they call it on the casing. Get loads of good comments about it and at that price if you dont get to use it at every gig its not a huge investment just sitting at home not being used. It may not be the biggest and best system in the world and some people on here would laugh at 60mw but it does what i need :)

Do not get a purelight tri beam you need smoke not haze to get the best out of them

I have 2 red purelight PL102's and 4 green PL101's.

I find that having individual units gives much more flexibility especially when you criss-cross the beams for some pretty funky tunnel effects. OK so there's no synchronisation between them but that hardly matters.

So for a wedding rig I might just put up 2 or 3 for the disco section, whereas for a kids party with lots of haze I'll put up all 6.

By using multiples I also have some redundancy.

Been using them about 2 years and so far had to replace one (red) diode out of warranty - got for about £20 from ebay as there's nothing wrong with the rest of the unit.

Incidentally, 3 fit nicely in those £14.99 aluminium "flightcase with foam" deals you get from Maplin from time to time (usually £29.99 but often discounted). There's a slightly larger one at B+Q for about £17 but no foam.

Wow 6 lasers :) I bet your big show is quite something to see, would love to see it in action but a bit too far for me to travel :mad:

i got the equinox at begining of december. that is some machine. also kam launch a new one at the end of this month. have a look at that one too. i seen one demo'd in dj pro in newcastle a couple of weeks ago. ordered two !!!

I have a Zoom Fatbeam laser for the small applications and then for anything bigger like a club night or a big venue that wants a laser i have a Traximus 4 head 60mw a head green & red laser.

we have red and green purelight ones, think they are 60mW and 120mW but I also a 400mW dmx laser system which is just ridiculous! it was bought for hire stock for a musical production but use it occasionally on the larger disco rigs as it is just stunning! but as with most things, you get what you pay for. you can usually pick up the purelight ones on ebay for good prices

Kam have launched all their new range of lasers around 4 weeks ago, which were you referring to?

Their latest range includes the Kam Laser 60 DMX, Kam Laser Tri 160 DMX, Kam Laser DMX Star Cluster and the Kam Laser 120 DMX, all four models are very good.

Huge in regards to the size of the phisical unit or huge in regards to beams?!

400MW, doesn't appear to be a large laser effect - not even 1W LOL!

Does 400MW still require smoke to see the beems?

i want that new KAM cluster laser. i saw a video on youtube and it so different. like a mirror ball in a way but lots of laser beams instead.


tbh i dont see the point of having anything over 120mw for a normal disco anyway. i know everydisco is different but unless you are doing very large disco for 300+ people most of the time then you dont need a powerfull laser.

my opinion anyway.

There are some lazers which will run in a big truck outside the venue.
You then use optical cables to get them in onto the rig where they are progected from :p

If it were me I would go for a smallish lazer (but still powerful enough to have a really good beam effect) which was DMXable and had a variety of colours.

I use 2x rocket lasers from spectrum http://www.spectrumuk.co.uk/more/moreal04.htm not the cheapest on the market but give a great effect when bounced of mirror balls, you basically get 8x lasers in 2x units for your money and you can specifiy the coulours when ordering
Iam afraid its that old quote "you get what you pay for" so that bit is down to you
