Acme Dynamo Scanners...anyone use?

Hi all.

Just about to purchase some Acme Dynamo DMX Scanners....anyone had any experience with these....I know they are not brilliant but just looking for an upgrade on the ones we started with last year....

suggestions please....

nothing wrong with the dynamos at all mate i used to have 8 of them. are you going for the 100w or 250w version very good lights i loved mine ... sold them as i wanted to take the show in a different direction.

excellent lights ive got dynatwins and they are marvellous. used every night from 1st to 31st dec replaced 1 bulb. great buy mate

Good light's.......DMX them...slow them down a bit...or keep them fast....

they are the 100w version....what kinda gig would you say they suited best? general all round lights or specific audiences?

General all-round lights for faster music. No good for slowies IMHO because the built-in programs don't work too well and if you put them under DMX control the movement is too jerky.

But very good general purpose lights they do indeed make. Wise choice.

If I went back to the day I bought mine the only thing I'd change would be to go for the twins instead - and cut my setup time. The only problem with a set of 4 is the time it takes to set up / cable / dismantle. Now I've got two dynarolls I can see the error of my ways!

i havbe two dynamos and there wicked! really good a up-beat kiddies parties. i use the stairville DMX master I with them. only to follow b&g and for slow songs. (saved scenes on the controller fast and slow).

I used them at all but I'd say that best suited to younger audiences as I noticed alot at weddings the older generation struggling with the brightness of them even at 100w and they do tend to strobe quite regularly. but very effective lights and great for the money.

yeah, important point, the 1 of 2 downfalls of the light. jerky on slow DMX and strobe quite bit but still really good!

Pretty sure there's a "no strobe" setting on the bottom button on the CA8?

Not tried it for a while so might be mistaken...

dont think so. there is a button you can press to slower the movments on mirror and it lowers the usage of strobe

dynatwins or dynamos then?? guess there is a difference having to set 4 up insead of 2

dynatwins are good if you want less seperate set-ups and stuck for plug sockets. other then that no difference

4 dynamos is:

4 clamps
4 screwthreads
4 power leads
3 DMX leads


2 dynatwins is:

2 clamps
2 screwthreads
2 power leads
1 DMX lead

And dynatwins are a few quid cheaper probably due to one less transformer coil.

If you've got a short setup window dynatwins will save you maybe 4 or 5 minutes.

and they don't put out quite as much light as the dynamos and imo the heads are too close together and you don't get the grace of being able to spread them as you want on your truss....

just to put a few cons to your pros. :D :D

I use the dynatwins and I would say best in short bursts when you have lively music on--as has been said not to be used with older audiences at Weddings or slow numbers---but very effective when things start rocking:D
