The word has gone mad!!

We have a couple of chaps that are retiring this year....lucky beggars!
So as a nice gesture i suggested that we maybe have a Retirement do for the people who are going to put there feet up.......

I found a function room with there own equipment for DJ's...:sofa:...so i thought i would do a stint have a couple and not worry about putting stuff away after.....

I was then told by our HR department that you can longer call it a 'Retirement Party' as that's ageism........:eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:

So i'm now looking for a banner that has 'Happy Retirement' with a line striked through and 'Leaving' to the side of it........

We have all gone stark raving bonkers.......:D

My response to that would be quite simply - "You can retire at any age, so how is "retirement" ageist?" And if calling it a retirement party is ageist then surely calling it "retirement" in the first place is ageist... the accounts department will now need to change their naming structures for retirement pay-outs and pensions.

That's as crazy as saying we can't call someone big anymore, as that's sizeist...we must now call them large.

Completely agree --barmy--but these HR people always get told by an "official source" so some idiot somewhere in officialdom has thought this up.

Maybe a "no longer employed party" for redundancies
and a "no longer working" party for retirement --ooops sorry PC incorrect again:eek:

I can understand the wish to cut out terms that upset other people--but WHO can you upset or disadvantage with a word like retirement?

I would suggest the people who though this up are--MENTALLY CHALLENGED
