i'm not talking about a teen disco, just a normal run of the mill all ages disco

i'd lie & say i never had it with me;)

it is total pants of the largest scale ..... i have played it as a request twice and both times its bombed ....... everytime i listen to it i wait for the music and singing to kick in ...... everytime im disappointed.

to be honest, I've not played it at all, I loath it.
I was asked for it at a teen gig, but as there were younger kids there I refused to play it as I didn't have the 'clean' edit.

Yeah I might play it at a kids party, if I was to lose my mind and do one, but otherwise - never. The song has nothing to it, it's completely flat. If you want to make a comparison, what about 'Akon - Smack That'? I don't like that track either, but it has at least some substance to it.

Yes, I am bitterly disappointed in the Chemicals' latest album, having been a massive fan of the last 5 or 6. Have they got to the 'hey, we can release anything we want and it seems to chart?!' stage??

what gets me, is when the person asking for the particular track, thinks it's great and you are a rubbish dj for not having it (or pretending you dont have it).

i sometimes play a little burst, till i see tedium on faces, then mix in something else - better, or more mainstream or the same genre.

I've only played it once apart from school discos, at a Christmas party 20 of them had practiced the dance & all did it.

Y'all do realise that the Chems are being totally tongue in cheek with that track, right? "OK, who's hungry?" I think it's, a) hilarious, and b) has about the best drum-line I've heard in a pop song in a while - the bass and snare sounds are ridiculously good.

I'd rather play Lil Jon 'Snap Yo Fingers', 'Get Low', or whatever else before 'Soulja Boy', 'Walk it Out' or (and in my opinion worse than 'Soulja Boy'), 'Ay Bay Bay'.

The first time I was asked for it was over Christmas at a big Uni staff gig for about 300. First by a 19-20 year old earlier in the evening, then later on by a 14-15 year old, and then the parent of said 14-15 year old asked for it again.

They were a pretty up for it crowd and lots of 18-20s were on the floor at the time so I took the risk of playing it, making sure I announced it was for the girl and her mum and reminding people I'd be coming back to some more 70s-80s if they didn't like it.

Anyway, whole floor cleared and the girl did the dance all by herself! Mum was embarassed and looked quilty at coming up and nagging me for it!! I'd also been asked for "young hearts run free" within the last 10mins or so, so used that to get them all back up again.

Needless to say I've never played it since, except for at kids parties.

Are you talking about the Salmon Dance? Na, it's definitely rubbish! :D To be fair, it has elements with potential, but the track as a whole is nowhere near 'Song To The Siren', 'Leave Home', 'Setting Sun', 'Private Psychedelic Reel', 'Hey Boy Hey Girl', 'Out Of Control', 'Star Guitar', 'Galvanise'... (need I go on? :))

Oh, and as for 'tongue in cheek', well that's all good and well if they couple it with some good music - if not, it becomes throwaway pop trash.

I went to see them a couple of years ago in Edinburgh, and they were poor. No, actually, the correct word would be 'lazy'. They just rattled off the standard studio versions of every song, exactly the same as I could have done. However, if you hear them at a bigger gig, like some of the summer festivals, they cut it up and really pump up the energy levels (bigger build-ups, longer mixes etc). I just feel that in their early days they would have had the passion and ambition to put effort into every gig - and I think the same applies to their studio output.

Hi all played Soulja Boy at a 16th birthday yesterday, (house party) and it went down a storm. I tihnk it is one of the most annoying tracks ever, but it has an easy dance and seems to appeal to most young people.
Wouldn't even consider it at a wedding or mixed age group but for younger age groups it seems to go down well.

Steve, 'Song to the Siren' is not a cover - the title is a reference to the fact that they used to use a police siren both during and between songs when they first started DJing.
