Hi all,
Had a company call me yesterday offering an 0800 number for a one off payment of £100...at the moment we advertise our landlane and mobile, this 0800 number would divert all calls to whichever one we wanted...suppose it would look more professional on adverts too, what do you all think?
Regards

I'm sure there was a thread about this before. £100 a year can work out quite expensive for an 0800 number. Better off getting one where you pay per call.
If they are the same people, I ended hanging up on them because they wouldn't take no for an answer. They then embarked on campaign of pestering me with calls for about half an hour afterwards trying to get me to pick the phone up again. The message they left on my answerphone was extremely unprofessional and contained a few unsavory words.
Personally I never buy from telesales people. Do a bit of research and find out what other companies charge for the same service.

they said it was a one off payment, not yearly...i thought it was quite cheap really..i asked if they would send any paperwork but she said they can do it all over the phone, not sure...gonna think about it for a bit, i got a feeling there is more to it...

I use Skycom for mine. It was free to set up and I pay by the minute for incoming calls. I can manage my redirects online. My monthly bill has never exceeded £6. It's more often than not around £2-3.

I wouldn't do it. You can get 0800 numbers for practically free now.. I paid £5 and then pay 2p/4p (off peak/peak) for each call. ( http://www.global.gb.net/ )
So far its cost me about 3p in calls (just me testing it still works!) as I don't actually advertise the number anywhere yet!

Probably depends on how long they last as a company--presumably if they fold thats your free number gone?
As most of us have "free" landline phone calls through talk talk why would anyone worry about phoning a normal landline--its free anyway---
My landline rings all day long:D :D :D
And a lot at night as well:D :D :D

I'm very mobile... so being able to set up rules such as 'try office landline; if no response in 15 seconds, try mobile' and making this transparent to the caller was my main reason for going with a non-geographic number, and 0800 seemed the sensible choice as folks are often confused about call charges on other 08 services. This was set up in the days before VoIP adaptors such as the Vonage device that gives you a geographic number in your home town which you can divert to mobile etc..

Good point--nowadays nothing that you are cold called about is likely to be cheaper than getting it somewhere else.
Ask yourself--do telesales staff work for nothing?
YOUR PAYING FOR THAT SALES PITCH if you buy.
Thats how things are in 2008.
We say --your selling what--oh yeah we have that --have a nice day--clunk!
