(Some) Women at gigs

Just finished at my residency at the local pub, was a good night, but why do some women always think they are great, had loads of requests for certain songs. and one particuler female kept saying nooo, this is rubbish, put somthing on i like, i kept saying what like, she replied leona bleeding love, i said yeah ok in a bit (couldnt exactly put it on in the same set as now your gone etc, this female shouted out just coz hes a dj he thinks he is so cool.
I was like what was that all about...

the one true thing I discovered by running a pub/working in entertainment for so long is people and alcohol just don't mix to well, so your going to get quite a bit of this sort of stuff, but don't worry you will learn to deal with it! :D

We all get them at gigs, get used to it, it's one of them things, the best way to deal with it is just take them with a pinch of salt, never take it to heart.

The worst is when everyone is dancing away apart from one drunk person who thinks that their taste in music is more important and starts shouting swear words at you... to which I will just smile :D

There really isn't need for swearing like that.. and especially in a situation like that... and I'm sure people think it is cool... ah well......:rolleyes:

I think this ties in with the 'new' breed of drunken young women out on the town every night (was it on these forums that this discussion came up?). More and more young women have money to burn on nights out, and they seem to think it's cool because of female celebs doing the same. As women have (on average) a lower tolerance for alcohol, this will inevitably lead to this sort of behaviour. I find it brings out a demanding and aggressive attitude which, in my experience, is seen less in drunken men.

I think the thread should actually say (some) people at gigs....

I don't think this problem is just relevant to women....

Totally agree. I just take it on the chin and find that if you don't overreact, it defuses the situation very quickly. If however they continue to give you a hard time, simply tell them to voice their concerns with management.

Darren, I reckon you're not getting the point here... I think some young ladies know fine well they can give out abuse, and guys don't know what to do about it, as violence of any form (not just physical) aimed at women isn't acceptable. I think some women take full advantage of this.

If a woman was giving me abuse verbally, then I'd get rid of her using my subtle wit. If that didn't work, then I'd just ask her to leave me alone and finally I'd speak to the organisers and get them removed.

Again, you are highlighting the physical violence, whereas verbal violence is a lot more likely. Something along the lines of "I'll see you outside" qualifies as such.

I never said that men are not as abusive as women, but in my experience, they are less likely to make a scene with the DJ, in terms of 'aggressive demands'.

At the club I DJ at, there are far more women coming up for requests than men. We have a sheet they write on, so that reduces the direct contact.
Men tend to be quite polite and "matey", it's very very rare for one to be arrogant, then they are usually drunk and tend to get escorted out before long anyway:D
The women tend to be just flirty or polite, but I do get a few arrogant ones, but fortunately it's rare. They normally just get a bit of a sulk on:rolleyes:
Our DJ box is about 8 steps up, so I think that is off putting for idiots, as they can be seen by the whole club (and doormen:cool: ).

I think we're lucky in my town, we have our fair share of undesirables, but they are either barred from everywhere anyway:cool: or they keep it amounst themselves and other punters.
It's very rare for someone to have a serious go at any member of staff, be they DJ, Barstaff, Cloakroom staff etc. just the odd front up to doorstaff who soon send them packing:D

I agree. It has always been around but seems to be on the increase in females. Lets face it there are fewer ladies and gentlemen these days and an increase in oiks ans drunken slappers.

I have to agree i think the increase in the amount that "ladies" drink in the past 10-20 years has probably meant that their anti-social behaviour has increased also?

Unfortunately this is a fact of life these days and more so in any career within alcohol surroundings.
Dealing with these situations is just something that either comes naturally or with time but the last thing that you could do is give abuse back as it could potentially lead to all your gear getting kicked in.
All I can personally advise on this is to just humour them agree and then carry on regardless but try to play the request at some stage if you have it that is.
It is really irritating but just one of them things that does happen.

Funny enough the only time anyone laid a hand on me in the pub was a woman, punched me right in the eye! I'd just chucked her out because she was falling all over the place (& punters)

You always get one.

Stick to your guns, you ar the DJ and if tried to please everybody, you would end up with an empty dancefloor for most of the evening. What you have to do is please the crtical mass of dancers you have built up.

In my experience, women are more mouthy, and men are more physical.

When I had a bottle smashed over my head for not playing a request, the culprit was a male.

However, the people who give me the most VERBAL grief about not playing their request or not playing it quick enough are the women.
