CD player not reading CD

HI,

I have an American Audio twin CD players. Recently, player two is taking quite a long time to read CD's. It will play them eventually but is inconvenient if it doe this during a gig.
Any ideas/comments?

Either a faulty or dirty laser. Try some isopropyl alchol on a cotton bud to clean the lens or buy a cd cleaner disk (not so good as previous suggestion though)
Probably just some dust or smoke gunk on it.

I dont use CD anymore but have you checked the lens on the reader is clean?

Otherwise probably a job for the DJ repair shop:D

Mine did this......laser was not lining up poperly...it just went from bad to worse. Got a new laser ...and everthing tickity boo.

I would just make sure it's not condensation first though......:)

Try lens cleaning fluid from a camera shop.
Be VERY careful touching the laser lens as the assembly is very fragile and can be damaged by rough hands - you will find the lens itself is quite 'wobbly' within its mount - this is normal and allows the servos to compensate for disc run-out and warps etc. Just don't press on it or force it to hard from side to side as you clean.

I never had this problem, although related, I have a Numark CDN 22, any way, one of the sides stopped reading discs, to cut it short it was out of warrenty so I took it to a local audio and hifi shop they just replaced it for a higher quality one than was already in it, just a heads up if you need it fixed.

I did all the cleaning and it basically came down to a new laser.
Better do that and have piece of mind rather than think 'I've got to go out with a piece of kit..that..may break down...?'

True but in my case I used my decks for 4 years before getting rid of them, in that time i had same problem on about a dozen occasions and a quick clean solved it all the time. I think this is less common now since smoking ban came in. But a lot of my venue's used to be quite smokey and my cd players used to be mounted above my amp with its fan drawing it all in all night.
