Compaq C742 - Help with specs please

Hi all,

Do you think the specs on this computer are ok for using to do disco's?

This sleek Compaq C742 laptop with a 160Gb hard drive will easily store all your photos, music and movies.

im no computer expert at all but I have a 2.8ghz laptop and my spare is 1.6ghz and when i've had a play with both ive really noticed the speed difference.

whether or not the spec is sufficient I would suggest asking Shaun (elite) or Marc J as they are both very very good with things of a technical nature with computers.

Also it probably greatly depends what you are running on it , have a look on yoursoftware providers website and check out the minimum requirements to run it.

Quite the opposite in fact..lol. I'm absolutely hopeless when it comes to PC technical stuff. Whenever I have a problem or need advice I run to Marc (thanks Marc for being there during my many PC meltdown moments:d). ..I'm such a n00b! :D

I think one of the members that are laptop based with their discos will be in a better position to offer advice.

THe specs on the lappy look fine - although i have it in my mind that someone said that Vista really needs 2mb Ram to work properly ..... having said that my son's laptop that he got for Xmas was only 1Gb and it seems to to be working well.

The Laptop i use, is a far lesser spec than this one, and does the trick no problems. Just make sure that you don't have auto upgrades, or your anti-virus scheduled for an update on a Friday or Saturday night!!

Dragonfly - remember that this lappy is dual core, so that the fact that it is only 1.4Mhz, isn't the same as a 1.4Mhz single core processor (i think!)

It's ideal to have as much ram as possible with vista, although I use vista on my laptop with only 756mb ram! And it runs perfectly fine for internet or djing use. Obviously not gaming, except for Football Manager 2008!

The most important thing we need to know is the software that you're going to be using. How others can come up with answers, when we don't have that basic bit of info is beyond me! :rolleyes:

My DJ PC is far less than that and runs fine. I see that it ok. Mink you have to take in account for Vista. Might need at least 2GB ram.

We have not bought a programme yet, we need one that we can load all the music and karaoke songs onto so the lyrics will appear on screen too...so many to look at...is anyone else using a programme to run both?

Virtual DJ is what I use.

There are plenty of others though.
