Just replied to a punter with an email quote---e mail address is wrong somewhere--bounced:eek:

I have the IP address--is that any use in tracking down who sent the email and who doesnt know their own email address:bang: :bang: :bang:

none whatsoever I'm afraid. Unless you're the Police, then you will only get their home address, not email address.

That's the point Crazy's making...... whoever sent him the enquiry didn't enter their email address correctly.
Email systems don't hard code the senders address into emails, it's entirely down to the user to type in in properly.
I'm guessing the enquiry came via a website form, so the user has simply made a typo..... or it's a spammer:eek:

Spot on Simon, as I said its quite a good client filter---hadnt really thought what a good idea this is:)

The e-mail header will have the address of the e-mail's origin.

Correct Steve, we have a quote request generator and I dont ask for a phone number--I keep things very low key--so theres no feeling of sales pressure.

If they want to speak to me they have my number.

Just a strategy we follow--cant grumble at the results.

Had the same thing this week, one missed strike on the keyboard & a gibberish email address. Luckily ours does ask for a contact number so I phoned instead of emailing. Punter didn't mind, especially after she realised she had mis- typed.

The contact form I use can (if configured to do so) check that the domain (the part after the @ in the email address) is registered and active, so at least if they get that part wrong it alerts them to the fact.

This doesn't help if it's the user bit (before the @) that they get wrong!

The school email has bounced on me after checking with them by phone so I could re send.

Looks like either spam filter or exceeded quota.
