So, having just got over the Grease theme nights, the Hotel are talking about doing disco inferno nights.
So, to that end, I already have lighting ideas - mirror balls, flame machines and flame projectors. Any more to add to that?
Music, I won't have any problems with either.
Anything else you think should be added in or any other ideas for this?

Is the hotel prepared to budget for any extras?
I've just quoted for a 70's night later in the year, and have specified a selection of props from a local theme company, including a John Travolta profile, Disco illuminated sign and a couple of custom gobos.

What music have you got in mind? 70's disco?

Daz, just maybe you will have to look at that LED dancefloor again. If these nights are going to be held at your venue and others in the near future, there might be hire opportunities to offset someof the innitial outlay.

You are joking of course...
They do have a budget and are coming back to me.

Yep, mainly - some 80s too.
I'd thought about UV, but forgot to post it.

They wouldn't pay to hire a black and white one from me last year, so I very much doubt they'd pay for the led one ;)

Well I had a harvester in the 80's...but I guess they might have been around in the 70's too.

I'm going to try and keep the lighting fairly simple with what I suggested earlier. I don't want to be getting ropelights, screens and similar...

You're doing gigs with a "disco inferno" theme but WON'T be using a ropelight?

Not all all. You mention that you are looking at ideas of lighting to use, you don't mention whether this will be on top of your standard show. Could be that you were simply using a more 'retro' show from kit you already own.

Cause Im smokin, baby, baby
The way you swerve and curve, really wrecks my nerves
And Im so excited, child [Yeah], woo, woo
The way you push, push lets me know that youre good
[Youre gonna get your wish] Oh, yeah
Fire (What I said, child, ow)
Fire (Uh-huh)
Got me burnin, burnin, burnin
Got me burnin, burnin, burnin (Yeah)
Got me burnin, burnin, burnin (Yeah)
Woo...hoo...hoo...baby
Start burnin, burnin baby
Ooh. Ooh, ooh, ooh
Burnin, burnin baby
Oh, baby
When you shake what you got, and girl, youve got a lot
Youre really somethin, child, yes, you are
When youre hot youre hot, you really shoot your shot
Youre dyn-o-mite, child, yeah
Well, I can tell by your game, youre gonna start a flame
Love, baby, baby
Im not gon choke from the smoke, got me tightenin up my stroke
Do you feel it, girl, yeah

I posted "You are joking" as the Hotel has quite a tight budget.

I don't want them period. I still think they are hideous things, even for a 70s night. I'd much rather have twinkling mirror balls, UV and flames. Much nicer.

Umm.... no.... but I would borrow or hire some if I was doing a big retro disco function like yours
It's one of the things I remember about discos when I was a kid, that and all the other kids trying to Michael Jackson moves on the dancefloor :o
(I know, that was a good few years on from the disco boom, but still..)

I'm not trying to recreate people's youth and this is in a 4 star Hotel, so the look is important.

There's a bunch of scenes in R4 that feature flaming icons that I usually play when Disco Inferno is on. Also have a "singing" skull whose mouth moves to the beat rotating over a backdrop of flames... really cool when projected.
I'll fire up the video laptop tomorrow and try to get a couple of screenshots.
Edit: There's a few here but I have more http://www.rabidhamster.org/R4/screenshot.php

So anyway....
I have the first of these nights tomorrow and am still undecided on what I should be using...
The rooms are really small and I want to use as little as possible so the rig doesn't look ridiculous.
I pick up a pair of colour changers tomorrow to use with either one or 2 mirrorballs. I am only using a 2m bar and have got the choice down to 2 x mirrorballs, EFX500, Impossibleds x 2, led pars, ADJ megabar, T4s x 2.
I have movers, scanners and barrels but don't want to use them really.
What should I use from the above list to be effective, slightly retro, but smallish too.
Ideas?
If it was me I would go for the par cans for a large wash, mirrow balls with mover (on floor next to rig so it can't be seen) and 2 Impossibled as they cover a large area, but as I dont know the size or shape of the room, I can't really say.
